After the loss of my S4 I ended up with the Jaguar XE R Sport. Early impressions are very favorable. Super strong motor, great drive train. The car is loaded with features and I love the interior.

The XE R Sport comes with a SC 3.0 V6, mated to a great 8 sp tranny. Very quick shifting up/down and with paddles. Car is AWD also. After two S4's I was okay trying something else. Great value for a $56,000 car. Looks very sharp in the flesh. In one day I have had a number of people her in LA ask me about the car as I was parking.

Probably excels over the new s4. Regardless they're obviously comparable.

I like the Jag. Think it looks pretty nice. I wouldnt compare it to an accord, if anything it reminds me of the newer body style ford taurus. Maybe its that fender vent.

Sweet ride! Those of you hating on the Jag clearly haven't read the reviews. The handling of this car is supposed to be sublime. The looks are good but like all modern jaguar except the F-type it's a little generic. Same could be said of Audi though. How do you find the engine compared to the S4's 3.0T mill?

Gotta love the hate as it's not the "Chariot"!!!!! Hahahaha!!!! I'm curious as to what you think of the interior? I have not looked up dimensions but how does it compare to the S4? I think the S4 is a bit tight on space (especially if you have kids and plan on fitting car seats/infant carriers). The jags have always been nice looking from an exterior standpoint so I'm not sure why the "Honda" comments have to come into play??? I actually think the new Accord looks great, too bad it's a FWD soulless car from a driveline standpoint!!!!!

Love what jaguar has been doing lately. Ignore the haters on here. B8/b8.5 is far from the be all end all of 4 door sedans. B9 is going to stomp the b8/b8.5 and crush the value of that car but don't tell them that ;) I think you should count yourself lucky and enjoy the new ride!

The interior is a bit larger than the S4. I think the Jag is wider. Back leg room is about the same. After driving the car the second day I am realizing haw great it is. I have had many Audi's in the last 20 years including a B8 and a B8.5 S4. I just did not want to go another three years with a B8.5. Not being in a position to wait for a B9 to see if I even like it this turned out to be a great option. Only other Audi I was interred in was the A7 and they are to $$$.

Unfortunately I am jumping on a plane for three days of business stuff so I will not be in the XE R agin to Wednesday. Anxious to see how I feel when I get back. I was thinking of how I am done with ECU mods. It was a bit hectic getting the Chipwerks module from my car because I could not get the hood open. I had to wait until the body shop did a partial tear down. So I was up last night googling Jag ECU mods and a dozen places pop up that have various mods for the 3.0 SC. NOT THIS AGAIN !!! Since my intention is just enjoy driving a nice car and not worry about powering around LA I hope to stay clear of "how do I make this thing faster". Let's see how long that lasts.

XE is SUPPOSED to be available with a 6MT. Although you can't build on with 6MT in the configurator. Looks like a decent car. Definite competitor for the S4, especially with a 6MT.

Wow, I'm not hating on the car. I didn't say it is comparable to an Accord, I said the exterior is similar...which it is. If you don't see it you honestly have to be blind. Put a honeycomb grille on the Accord and you have the same car, visually.

It's a beautiful car...I'm not saying that's a bad thing. I've also heard the handling is probably best-in-class, with nobody having something bad to say about it.

They look great in person. It is a direct competitor to the S4 with its 340hp/332 lbft supercharged V6 . Love the front of the car - watched a lot of youtube videos about it: great suspension and great looks; smaller rear seat room and cargo space than the S4. And I have to say that the engine note is addictive - has a very growl like sound to it that you can't get enough of (my wife loves it in her F-Pace).

I would seriously consider one next year if they update the interior to match the newer technology they have out including virtual cockpit and the LED headlights.

The price of that F type is ridiculous. I am going to test drive a F Type R this weekend just for fun but the pricing on all of the Ftype models is nonsense. My mother wanted a base AWD model cause she loves the look and they start in the $70k range.

Good review in C&D- FWIW one paragraph did make a direct comparison:

"The V-6 engine is neither as honeyed nor as musical as the Audi S4’s engine of similar configuration, displacement, and output. But even if the Jag engine doesn’t achieve the same level of polish, the NVH team has done an admirable job of burying the unpleasant sounds and vibrations behind insulation and bushings. At full throttle, the supercharger is barely audible and the engine plays a subtler variation of the six-cylinder F-type’s rasp"

B8 S4 is a 7 year old platform, Jag should be better, best comparative measure will be when B9 comes out soon. Overall a very nice car though, enjoy.

Nice. It was definitely high on my list and maybe above the S4 at one point.... trouble is it never came out. Drove an XF RS for comparison and had the shittiest test drive around. Granted I came in an hour before closing but the sales woman was a total bitch and tried to control the drive to the first 4 turns around the block in traffic on a rainy night after taking 30min+ to take the car out.

Would have been interesting. Definitely like the S4 though.

What are your impressions now as the time has passed a bit more? I am driving a loaner 2016 XF since the F-Pace is at Jaguar for a little work (hood misalignment and just checking the transmission for a little downshifting jerkiness). I find the handling to be not as good as the S4 when getting aggressive. But I am also not sure if I have the RWD or the AWD version (seems like a fully loaded 35t but possibly not with AWD).
