Hello guys I currently drive a B7 2.0t with 103k miles. I freaking love the car and wish i could keep it for a few more years but at this mileage timing belt is coming and few more maintenance parts and i don't have the time to wrench every week. Anyways I wanted to know a little more about the B8 A5. how are these engines? Are they any better then then before? Are they more reliable? I know this engines have timing chain so i wouldn't worry about replacing. How is the oil consumption? And what transmission i should look for that's good? They come in 6sp auto and 8sp auto not looking for manual.

I would say just go with a B8.5. If you really like the B8 design then go with a 2012 one.

The 2009-2011 "CAEB" coded engines had the oil burning problem which required a stage 2 fix by the dealer(new pistons). I also read up on how the timing chain tensioner went through several revisions. Apparantly it can break on higher mileage cars and if it does while driving it will lead to catastrophic engine damage. When I had my stage 2 fix done i asked my service guy and he said they replace the tensioiner if it shows any signs of wear.

The B8.5(2013) is free from oil burning or tensioner concerns. My B8 (2011) A5 has been great to me i currently have 50k on it.
Good deals can be had on CPO 2013 A5's.

FIND ONE WITH THE S-LINE kit! The sideskirts and front bumper make a big impact in person, pics don't do it justice. My A5 has everything except for the S-Line kit.

I will say, though, that the 4 cylinder seems rather small for this car. It's pretty responsive under boost.

You'd still be able to. Except that whole buying out of state thing is kind of hard.
