B6 S4: Hood Release cable broke, looking for advice on how to open the hood now

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
This morning when I tried to open the hood of my B6 S4, I pulled the hood latch and I believe it has become disconnected from the locking mechanism on the hood release. I've searched the forums for advice on how to open the hood when this happens, but I'm looking for specific details on how to approach this. I tried the remove the grill technique, took out one of the bolts that secures the hood, but am simply unable to get to the other bolts with the tools u have, so that option is pretty much put the window. Can someone explain to me how the "remove the belly pan" option works? I have the belly pa removed but what am I specifically looking for when it comes to releasing the hood from underneath? Pictures would be greatly helpful. Thank you for any advice!

If the hood latch wire is exposed, or if you can find and get to it, see if you can give it a (real) good tug to pop it open. Unsure how to access it from under vehicle but believe there is a thread on it somewhere...

on a b6 it's easy. from the outside, pop the tabs that hold the upper grill on so you can reach the release by hand

When my hood pop cable broke I was able to unlatch the hood from under the car. Remove the belly pan and grab a long screw driver/pry bar/piece of flat bar stock etc. something long enough to push the locking tab open. Hood should release, though it may take a little finessing. Good luck!

I've tried all the long screw driver tricks on my b6 s4 and every other trick and the only thing that works is pulling the grill and taking off the three bolts that hold the latch to the hood. If you go this route be prepared it takes forever!!!! Like about an hour to get those three bolts out cause its only like 1/4 of a turn. Good luck!

This is what I had to do. Two of the bolts actually aren't toooo bad, that third one way in the back takes longer than the other two combined. I think a ratcheting wrench would probably make it much faster as well. I didn't have one at the time.

I tried for 2 days when mine broke. Took it to audi and they had it open in 45 mins. $300 total for them to open it up, new latch cable, and labor to install it.
