    Cruise control not working

The cruise control is not working on my 2005 B6 S4. I checked the clutch, brake, and actual CCS switches with VCDS and they are all functioning normally. Turning on cruise control does nothing and the CRUISE light does not come on in the dash. It has worked in the past just fine. Any ideas?

Vcds might not pick up a faulty clutch pedal switch. I would swap that out, as it is likely it. It's a cheap fix.

I was thinking that. Odd that it would show it actively switching on and off as I pump my foot on it, but whatever.

Yeah, mine did the same thing a few months back. I swapped it and it worked out despite my doubts. Hope it works out for you, I know how annoying it can be to not have cruise control.

Thats what my issue was. Easy fix. Also the revs fell off quicker afterwards as well.

Hanging revs and non-functional cruise are the two indicators of a faulty clutch switch.

Yeah I have read that a few times, but haven't noticed the hanging revs issue on mine.

I replaced the clutch switch with the new updated one. Cruise control is still completely inoperative. Is it possible it needs to be re-enabled with VCDS? I had the ECU disconnected from battery for about a month. The cruise control worked prior to that.

Check for fault codes on both the engine ECU and the SCSM (steering column switch module) with VCDS.

Already said and done, all modules of the car have been scanned a few times during this process and have no stored codes.

Same happened to me, must be common. I also had the brake switch go as the brake light wouldn't go off.. Did you touch the plunger part in any way? Like pushing it or or out etc before you installed it? They are very easy to damage. I'll try find the guide I used and post it if you want? Also is the car idling differently when at the lights etc? If so then it's defo the switch

It actually does have an idle issue that I still haven't been able to fix, but it does it whether or not the brake is applied. HOWEVER, as for the cruise control, I poked around some more in VCDS, verified that everything in the switch was reading correctly, then went for a drive and it works now...so who knows. I have CC back though, so that's nice.

Good stuff :-)... As for the idling problem. Is it just happening as you about to stop like foot off clutch, stop and then revs climb?

No, it's more of a random shuddering that shakes the whole car. Watching VCDS while it was doing it, 0 misfire count, no input or output fluctuations that corresponded with it. New spark plugs, ignition coils, and suction jet pump didn't help.

Yeah, whole timing job was done a few thousand miles ago. Intake flapper seems to be working, and as for the intake being loose, I just did valley pan gasket and check valves and torqued the manifold to spec with blue loc-tite. New PCV valve recently as well. New valve cover gaskets. New fuel filter. New MAF...LOL I have basically just thrown parts at this car (some for specific reasons, some just because why not) and it still keeps giving me headaches.

Yeah I was thinking about doing engine mounts pretty soon just to see if it helps. Probably gut the downpipes too, as the car really seems down on power for no apparent reason.

Have you ever took the manifold off and gave everything a good clean? You have the 4.2 v8 in the s4 don't you?

Which manifold are you referring to? Yeah, that's the engine.

The intake manifold and ports and valves.. If it's the same fsi engine thts in mine (b7 rs4) then they get clogged with carbon. U probably already knew that anyway.. I'm getting mine cleaned today

The S4 does not share the same 4.2FSI that is in the RS4. They have the regular 4.2 5v engine.
