It seems like I'm cursed with oil leaks.

Hey everyone. I don't often frequent this sub forum as I used to but figured I'd pop in for some advice and also to rant a little. I recently sold an 06 C6 Avant(3.2 engine) which had 110k miles on it. Before it was sold, it developed an oil leak that I could not remedy without having to take the whole engine out(something I didn't do). I had replaced the valve cover gaskets as well as resealed the timing chain covers(both were leaking) to no avail. My strong suspicion was a main seal leak. Anyways, I was happy to have gotten rid of it because it was starting to drive me nuts. My B7 3.2 Avant just hit 80k and it too is now leaking oil in the same manner as the C6 did!! I too, have replaced the valve cover gaskets, and resealed the timing chain covers as both were leaking. I have yet to drive up on some ramps and have a looksee, but my sneaking suspicion is that it being plagued by probably what started happening to my C6 - a main seal leak. I'm starting to lose a little faith in Audi as that is two cars in a row that have both had oil leak issues. I have an 09 C6.5 with 60k on the odo and am afraid the same is gonna happen once it hits higher miles.

Anyways, I'm going to put the car up probably this weekend and try to figure out why the hell it's leaking. If it's the main seal, its gone once I come back from my trip in July. She's been good to me for over 4 years, but this might just be the beginning of a lot of headaches.

I have learned the hard way once an Audi hits more then 80k miles lets there be games. Lol in other words maintenance comes one by one and then the headaches. They are not reliable like a toyota , lexus or honda. Anyways it could be just A VC problem an that's it . I'd start there and then troubleshoot if it continues.

Well that's the thing. The VC gaskets were leaking so I replaced them. No leaking there anymore. Also, the timing chain covers leaking, resealed them too, so no more leaks. I'm getting about one drop off of the back of the splash pan a day, but if I look underneath, it's saturated, as is some of the exhaust, etc behind it. I'm going to drive her up on some ramps this weekend, but as I said, I'm fearing the worst as in a main seal leak. She's been pretty much trouble free for over 4 years(how long I've owned her). I think owning 2 german luxury cars, I like have since for 2 years, is not such a wise idea unless the pockets are deep lol!

The plastic portion where it meets the metal isn't leaking at all. Look from the top down reveals no leaks. I have heard that the oil filter housing area is prone to leaks especially where it meets the block. Maybe looking from underneath will reveal something.

put it on ramps man. also one good tip i like to do is at night time leaks are more visible. with a flashlight. so you can also do that.
