"electric vacuum pump for brake servo" - delete?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Any thoughts on this?

I believe it came on AT cars, and takes up space in the bay.
Is it now not worth having, and to be deleted, having swapped to manual?

There's a rubber vacuum joint at the firewall.
I noticed that the joint on a manual car, simply goes to the engine.
Whereas the joint is a different part number for automatic, and has an extra port on it, to branch to the above Vacuum Pump via a hard line running under the coolant tank.
In other words, is it as simple as swapping over the manual elbow? Will it matter to the cars computer/electronics?

"Only fitted to cars with tiptronic transmission"

Here's a manual car without it:

You really don't need it with the manual transmission. I would guess that you would probably get a few DTC's if you simply remove it. Something like an open circuit code.

OP, I got your PM...found your thread.

I pulled that aux pump out sometime after I did the trans swap.

As far as a DTC, I either:

    a. Didn't care, since i had a CEL all the time anyway for SAI delete
    b. I possibly long coded it out post-swap via VCDS

Do you have access to VCDS? If so, pull it and scan.

If not, find someone who does have VCDS, bribe with beer, and scan :)

A DTC for a disconnected brake vacuum booster pump probably would not result in a CEL since it wouldn't have any affect on engine emissions. It would only show up as a trouble signal if you scan for all codes.

Pre-swap, and a disconnected vacuum and/or electrical to the pump, one would get an ABS DTC, and ABS cluster light.

You are of course correct OG, a DTC doesn't always trigger a CEL, but would be a stored fault.

However, to avoid the DTC, that aux pump could just most likely be coded out using VCDS.

And, the hose and check valve coming from the booster, to the input of the pump would need to be routed to the intake to provide the vacuum needed.

I wish my memory was better, as I probably did just that, post swap.
