Electrical Power went off well driving, car still running, SCARY!!!!

So I was driving on a street and not freeway, going around 35mph at night, all of a sudden the car blacked out,
headlights turned off, all interior lights off, dash, MMI went off except the brake light was on in the cluster...
car was still running and a beeping started, the same beep you get when you have low tire pressure, except it beeped every 4 seconds or so till car was off.

the steering never locked up & car was running fine, I quickly pulled over, backed into a parking stall incase I needed to tow, turned off car, and turned car back on, and it was like nothing happen, drove car home, everything was fine.. WTF, what could it be?? anyone ever hear of something like this?

I'm at 54k miles, been stage 2 for 2 yrs, never had any issues before.

I had the MMI crash once and turn off all the accessories until I manually reset it. (Perhaps this was it? Mine happened during the day so I don't know if the headlights shut off)

I'm glad the steering didn't lock up on you. Sounds very odd and scary!

Can only imagine what that would be like in a 8.5 since it has electric steering! Scary for sure, hope you get it figured out!

Maybe one of the relays that controls the accessory 12V power feeds is intermittent. One of them is typically called the "Load Reduction Relay", which cuts off accessories (and headlights) when the starter is engaged.

Sounds like a short.. might be due to an aftermarket mod.. e.g. ecodes lighting or such. Would check with the wiring of those, along with anything else electrical or tapped in that is not stock.

In addition, check all of the seals on the aftermarket lighting, there may be some water getting to the electrical causing this short

Try to get vag com before going to dealer. They'll just TD1 for no reason and say they didn't find anything. Then proceed to tell you that you need to pass and rotors, or filter or fluids.... I've heard of similar electrical things happening to others with no repeat event or long term issue. Wouldn't worry and just move on, unless it happens again.

Any chance rats or anything could be nesting and eating wires? Take a good look at anything visible.

Check the J329 "Power Supply Relay Terminal 15", located on the relay panel under the dash, drivers side, about 12 inches forward of your left knee.

Also check the J317 "Power Supply Relay Terminal 30"". located in the fuse/relay panel under the hood, in the ECU weather-box near the base of the windshield, driver side.
