    Door sill illumination question

Noticed last night my driverside door sill does not light up, all other doors work fine. I have not checked fuses yet but was wondering if anybody had encountered this before and knew of another starting point.

Yes, relatively common issue. I've had mine go out in both A6 and current A7. It's covered by warranty/CPO...had to replace the door sill in both cases.

Wookie, i've had mine replaced under warranty as well....if you aren't under warranty, see if they'll go halfway with you. doesn't hurt to ask.

Having the same issue on driver side and it’s not covered for me any longer so it’s $1400 CDN which is robbery. Anyone have experience with fixing this issue? Hoping so as it would be unfortunate to spend that much money on part and labour.

$1400 to fix?? The part itself should be like $320, which is still highway robbery but not as much. My driver side sill is also out unfortunately but the others are fine.

The only fix I'm aware of involves replacing it, although you could try and pry it loose and check the connections for any corrosion.

Yep that’s what I was thinking but the issue is my advisor was mentioning its an adhesive that keeps it in place so it may end up being a replacement either way.

I also have the front sill leds half out. I bought working second hand units, just need to figure out what tape Audi uses. I’ll try to fix the old sills at some point, apparently it’s possible. https://www.drive2.ru/l/538910782021173458/

My driver side went out a couple of years ago. Replaced it with aftermarket ebay ones (4x for $60) instead of the OEM ridicules price; BUT its a pita to replace them. The connector is under the plastic area meaning the entire footwell panel has to come off. Fortunately I still have my panel off. I'll take a picture later today.

It's 3M double sided tape. You need to remove all of the old tape and residue.

Here is what the aftermarket sill looks like:

Here is a picture of where the connector is and how I attached it. Pardon the mess, I'm doing other work on the car.

This thread is quite apropos. I've secured a set of illuminated sills to complete my lighting package. I added the front & rear led lighting consoles with the additional wiring and coding. I have found several DIY tutorials on this and they are all over the place...

    Couple of questions:

    1. What is the best method for powering the sills, the lighting console, the puddle lights, or the door switch?
    2. Well only one question...

    TIA-

    You missed the point...
I do Not have illuminated sills, it's a retrofit. There are no wires except for the ribbons attached to the OE sills.

At those kinds of prices, when my sills go bad I'll just have to get used to them not illuminating.

Apologies as I misread. I was excited thinking there was a glimpse of hope in fixing it if access to the wiring cable was close by.
