So sad.....my beloved S4 is a total loss

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Last Saturday some guy made a turn immediately in front of me. I had no place to go but dead into his car broadside. Luckily no serious injuries. I had the car towed to my dealer and then to the body shop. I thought it would need the front clip replaced but I have been told the whole front end was pulled 6-8 inches to the passenger side and pushed down as well. Lots of damage including the strut towers very out of plumb. Repair shop said they are 98% sure it is gone and just waiting from conformation from the other guys insurance company. They called me to say they are taking 100% responsibility. In any case I have about 11 months left on the lease and was planning on getting a B9 S4 when they are available in the fall. Now I have a decision to make. Get another B8.5 or go another route. Since I had a 2012 S4 I am reluctant to get a third one. While I love the car I don't think I will do another one for three more years. New car ideas are a Macan S, Jaguar XE R Sport, Tesla or a SQ5. Not in the mood to deal with this now. I have an A4 rental that seems awful.
    Arghhh.......

Wow, that sucks but at least there were no injuries.

I don't really like SUVs, so I would go F80 M3 based on your location and desire to lease.

glad everyone is fine. the car did its job in protecting everyone so +1 for german engineering. big fan of Jaguar....go back through the times you took road trips/needed to move something/people and decide if you need the space an SUV gives you or not. that should help make your decision.

Like everyone said, at least there were no injuries. Toys can always be replaced.

I was in a B9 A4 loaner for a day. Made me extra appreciative of the S4. I agree with the Macan.

Glad you are ok! Your choices seem to be either fast sport sedan or SUV. If you go SUV, Macan S or Q5 are great...as well as the new Jaguar F-Pace. If you go sedan, the Jaguar XE has gotten great reviews on handling and performance although I personally feel the S4 is better in performance and size. Not sure about the Tesla unless you do a lot of city commuting.

I'm sorry to hear man. Glad you are safe and sound! That shit happens all the time around here. Out of those choices, I'd say Macan. Sounds like you need the 4 doors? How about the Cayman S or the M2 Coupe?

Test drive all these back to back & decide yourself. Personally, I'm partial to the new Jag especially if you're not planning to keep it after the warranty runs out.

My vote is Macan, loved the feel and precision of the handling when I test drove it.

Assuming there are no downsides when test driving I'd go Jag just to try something new. Macan would definitely be boss too.

Alfa would be first choice. They are having what appears to be a major problem technically that has delayed release to the US. Also $$$. I don't really want a SUV, but the Macan looks great to me and supposedly drives like a sports car. I thought I was done with the SUV world,as my kids are older now. My wife also has one and I enjoy driving it. Ford Escape which is surprisingly good other than the engine.
I am test driving the Jag today and will be going to see a Macan soon.
Thanks for the support and responses!

It does look like the whole front of the car has been pushed a little further towards the passenger side. Might be the angle or my eyes. I'm sorry about the accident though... =\

The front end I'd pushed 6-8 inches and down 3-4 inches. Strut towers at an angle. That is of course the issue. The guy I hit was moving fast at 90 degrees from me, which pulled the from to the side.

Have you considered an M2 or M3/M4. Many think the M2 is a return to better days of the M3. M2 is getting great reviews . $14k less than an M4. Performance as good if not better.

Take the time to actually read his detailed description of the frame damage. It's pretty bad in a way pics don't show.

Except the wait list for M2 allocations is really long right now and those that haven't been directly ordered are being marked up by dealers, cutting into that price difference unfortunately.

Wow, glad no one was hurt. Could have been a lot worse.

So, sounds like you want four doors and a rear seat. Understood. Assuming you don't need AWD for snow since you live in LA, so RWD. You definitely don't need a lot of ground clearance if an S4 works for you. And unless you are a complete philistine you want a manual transmission.

Like you said, the Alfa is what you really want (me too!), but not available yet. Don't think there are many other choices.

+1 in that you are safe and sound man. Make it into lemonade. Have some fun car shopping and enjoy the next one. Tough choice choices out there. You may even want to look at a jeep srt8 if you're just looking for a quick hold me over car to have some fun with.

Real talk, you should go look at the M3post forum. You can probably find a short term lease take over (15-18 months). Ive seen some pretty well priced cars there for short terms. This way you'll buy yourself time til you find something you really want, and you'll have tons of fun with the M3/4 while you wait.

As others have stated, if you're able to walk away...and your only worries are what car to get next, then it's not so bad.

Cars now-a-days seem to be designed to self destruct in a way that you can do just that (walk away).

Tesla, I thought, had a backlog. I'm not an SUV guy, so my 2 cents is on the Jag. Unless you're willing to look at the 340xi.

Kelley Blue Book is probably the easiest way, and also you can look at auto trader, cars.com and what dealers are asking. But I have a feeling they will go by trade in value, or fair market value on KBB.

The Jag XE R Sport is SO much fun to drive. I was able to test one out a few months ago and I had a blast. Really made me rethink what I want to buy next. The Macan S is also a beautiful car and a good route if you are looking to go SUV. I love the SQ5, but I would go Macan over SQ any day.
