    License plate bulb issue

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hello all! I've just replaced the bulbs in my license plate and they do not turn on. Both bulbs are functional and new. Any idea what's going on here? Also where is the fuse that controls the plate bulbs? Thank you

    Oem bulbs aren't polarity sensative

OP. check your fuse box to the left of the steering wheel. You need to open the door. Inside the panel, you'll see the fuses and a map on the back of the panel itself

I have pulled the panel and see the map but nowhere does it say rear bulbs or anything similar I have no idea which fuse it is. I have tried flipping them anyway for the sake of being thorough. No dice.

Do you have your owners manual? It'll tell you the fuse locations in there.

I did a quick search and apparently the license plate lights aren't fused. ( I wasn't aware of this ). They're directly tied into the Central Electric Control Module...

So.... the only thing I can think of is if the housing prongs are bent and aren't making contact. That, or you have damaged wire somewhere

The housing has to be installed the right way to make contact

What should the housing look like I can't tell if both of mine are bent up or not, also there's some corrosion I'm gonna tackle on the inner contacts in the trunk itself

Clean the corrosion with rubbing alcohol and make sure you scratch all that crap off. Just make sure the 2 metal prongs are making contact on them while installing.

Just put a voltmeter in there and see if you have 12v at the contacts. Then you will know where to go from there. Multimeters are cheap and invaluable around the home/ car

Common but this...Every time I take them apart I have to spend a little extra timing aligning the contact points...

P.S OEM bulbs might not have polarity but if you put in LEDs than it definitely does make a difference...If I put mine in the wrong way they light up.

Well now another symptom I'm having is that the side marker lights also are not on. Where is the secondary fuse box on this car?

And can any of this be caused by a headlight switch change

Were all the lights okay before the switch change? Could have futzed something up when messing with the switch harness.

It was the housings, ordered LED ones for 16$ that work great.

What LED housings did you order? Mine are bad and I have redone the seal/gasket a few times.
