    US RS3 Sedan

A friend of mine claimed to have seen an RS3 at an Audi showroom on Long Island but didn't take a photo of it because too many people around it and sitting in it.

I did some good ol' Google searching and found no photos of RS3 sedans in the US, and actually, read articles saying they will be made available here as 2018 models in 2017.

He's lying, isn't he? Or probably just really dumb.

Also it was highlighted that it will be here in summer 2017 at the AoA annual meeting

If there were an RS3 at a showroom in Long Island...

A: That would make no sense at all. If Audi were to send what would effectively still be a test mule for a 2018 model to America to build hype, they would send it to flagship dealers in NYC (Manhattan), DC, or LA...not Long Island.
B: If there were a crowd of people around it taking photos, those photos would find their way online quickly and a search in Google for "Audi RS3 Long Island" would quickly return those pictures and numerous auto blog articles about said RS3 being in Long Island.
C: If your friend was a true fan of Audi he would have waited a few moments to take a picture of his own.

So chances that your friend is lying (or perhaps just mistaken about what he saw)...99.9999999999%.

I've only ever seen the current version of the RS3 hatch and it was here in the Northern VA area where AOA headquarters is located.

he probably doesn't know much about cars, or audis at least. maybe it was an rs7 or used rs5 in the show room.

I'm waiting for the 4 door M2 rather. The RS3 hatch is too lacking in handling and driver dynamics, albeit an amazing engine.

I think a 4-door M2 would be awesome! The proportions are so "right" just as they are with the S3.

Heh. Maybe you guys should buy M3s or M5s? A four door M2 sort of defeats the purpose of a high-performing sub-compact. ;)

    meee toooo.

bmw looks like they also have more aftermarket performance parts as well.
I'm gonna hold on to my s3 for at least 5-10 years as it looks like the 4 door version is not coming anytime soon anyways.

btw, if they do ever make it, they will call it a "gran coupe m2 bmw". lol

Not really as M3 too big. M2 4 door is to compete with the comparable AMG & RS models

Well, I sort of feel like the 2 series is the ideal 2+very-small-2, right? Diminutive but not punishingly small like the 1. Once you add two more doors, it's goes from a smallish, efficient sport coupe to a somewhat-small sport sedan/saloon. At least, if you make the backseat something remotely reasonable.

It's a different car than our *3, in my opinion. It feels homogenous and boring to just turn the two door two series into another four door thing. I really like the 2 being two door. The 3 being a reasonable 4 door. The 4 being a moderate 2 door. The 5 being a moderate four door. Etc.

S3 is smaller than the 3 series. BMW need a smaller compact 4 door. I think that there'll be a big demand for it... like the E36/46 shape.

    Also the E36, E46, E9x (last 2 decades of 3 series) BMW's all shared 2 & 4 door variants.

Though, we don't know if the new RS3 will share those same deficiencies, right? Fingers crossed it's a totally different car than the RS3 hatch.

I just read about this the other day. The replacement list of me owning an Audi is slowly diminishing with Audi deciding to go down mediocre cars of late. I think the M2 is replacing the RS3 for me, however, the only thing that would keep the RS3 in place is the AWD. The M2 might euchre that with a 6-speed manual though...

The S5 Sportback is falling off the list slowly as if it takes the same route as the S4, then well...

Audi is certainly not improving it seems from the 'Most Valued Car Brands' stats. I can't see myself buying another and will certainly be looking to move back to BMW fold after the S3 (which is a fantastic car!)

That list isn't exactly brand switch inspiring considering it lists Mercedes, Nissan, and Land Rover in the top 10 of "most valued"...whatever that even means. I assume you have better reasons to switch than a "most valued car brand" poll even though you said the S3 is a fantastic car?

Naturally, the point was to demonstrate market perception.

I'd be switching in a few years primarily to go back to RWD. While the AWD systems have amazing grip and safety, I do find it too FWD bias and won't allow you to have 'fun'. Personal preference really. Like I said the S3 is a fantastic car. I have 3 BMW's and only switched to the S3 as BMW had nothing comparable. I'd certainly consider the RS3 sedan if it had been released earlier in the 8V lifecycle.

I can't argue with any of that. They do say the holy trinity is 2 doors, manual transmission, and RWD. So you'd be very close to that...and honestly I prefer 4 doors anyways. ;-)

According to the articles I've read so far, The M2 4-door would be a 2019 model. What the hell!?!? That would probably mean we'd get it a year later! I love my S3, but that's a long time to wait. The local dealer is literally worthless for this kind of info 🙄

Hopefully, I'm wrong on the potential release date . . .

Agree. I miss mine, but the M3 is just a bit too $$$ for me at this stage and I was never sold on the looks of the F80. Have toyed with the idea of a E90 M3 and putting in a SC.

I was cross-shopping the M3, but optioned out, the M3 was $35K more and I just couldn't live with myself and justify the difference. A good friend of mine with an M4 swapped with me for a few days and it took a few phone calls before he would bring my S3 back. He loved the size and power of the S3 and felt he wasn't giving up that much.

Agreed on the E90. I always had a thing for a white 4-door E90 M3 with the Comp package!

Problem with all the BMW's is that YOUR TRACTION is lacking... much much harder to hit 10's without BIG suspension mods. Just spinning your tires while the car next you blows your doors off with 1/2 the power never is much fun. Kinda comparing apples to oranges.

I've driven so many high powered RWD cars.... unless your a professional driver.. your NEVER going to be able to use all the power, nor are you EVER going to put down the advertised 0-60 or 1/4 times the factory claims. I love the S3 because most car retards have no idea what it can do. Nothing more fun than embarrassing a GT500 or any other RWD inexperienced driver that 'thinks' their car is SOO fast because it has 500+ HP, but worthless off the line wo/slicks.

AWD is for drivers who want 0-60 times and use PlayStation. RWD is for drivers who want fun factor. Burnouts, oversteer or handbrake turns in an Audi?...think not

ill have to agree with roadrunner. I'm not ever at a track nor will I be drag racing the car. its all about the fun factor and the feel of the car, so Im never going to be a professional drag racer. i rarely drag race the car next to me at the stop light as it stands. with the S3 i don't really feel the car S3 when i drive it. since i have to keep the car for at least 5+ years ill do some mods to help with that. i do love the look and the size of the S3, it just lacks the feel maybe some noise as well (not a fart can). the other complain is that it is super hard to see out and to the sides for other cars. the pillars and high sides really do make this car difficult to drive safely.

I'm a roadcourse guy and there's no bigger thrill than to steer the car with your right foot. Very tough to do with an Audi. Give me a dry track and some R-compound tires and the fun starts!!

In regards to your comment about the S3 being tough to drive safely, what are you coming out of . . . a 2007 Crown Vic? All kidding aside, I think this is a very easy car to drive with it's upright seating position and lots of glass.

Your buddy didn't see an RS3 unless it's the grey hatch that's been running around Northern VA for the past few months (sounds great!).

at first I thought it was just me but my GF also noticed the side windows were much smaller (like a bunker style design) so she couldn't see out the windows as well as all our previous cars. which by the way I have never owned an American car. so a 2007 crown vic, well i have no clue what that drives like. my last car was a Subaru sti. did you come out of one of those crown vics?

I was waiting for someone to comment about this. this forum is very predictive. I wont be able to explain it as well as brian cooley who will talk about why the new cars look the same with all the current designs but really explains about the windows and pillars that I mentioned.
