    Would like to add a back up camera

    Hi y'all , when I bought my 2016 q5 I didn't even think that the back up camera would not be included. I still can't believe it.
    Anyway, what do I have to do to add one?
    It's a 2.0t Premium Plus with Navigation.

    I think that was in the Prestige package. My SQ5 had one. I would say all of the cutouts are there. Its just a matter of sourcing all of the parts and installing them.

    I didn't realize you could get navigation without the rear view camera. That sucks.

    Someone over on AW installed a kit from Carsgadget.com. He had a non-MMI setup, but they also sell an MMI setup. You can check out the thread here.

    On a 2016 premium plus, if you get the technology package, it comes with all of this:

    Technology package:
    * Voice control
    * Audi connect®
    * Bang & Olufsen® Sound System
    * HD Radio™ Technology
    * Parking system plus with rear view camera (front and rear acoustic parking sensors)
    * Single CD/DVD player
    * MMI® navigation plus
    * Color driver information system
    * Audi side assist

    I don't believe you can get navigation without the backup camera. I think that yours is malfunctioning. Go back to the dealer and pitch a bitch.

    Yeah I'm guessing he has the Premium and not the Premium Plus.

    OP do you have parking sensors?

    Would like to add a back up camera

    Given that the camera is completely obvious if you look at the rear handle I would assume the OP has indeed ascertained its existence, or lack thereof on his car (you have right??). I would assume you can just purchase the camera module and controller and wire them up to the MMI system. I would assume some coding would be necessary as well in VCDS to register the camera and allow it to activate when you put it in reverse.

    It's a somewhat common retrofit on the b6/b7 chassis a4s so I don't think it's super complex. Kufatec makes plug and play kits I know.

    Thanks guys, very helpful. I was definitely surprised.
    I will be buying a camera and wiring it. Will post DIY.

    It's about $700 for the camera and module. Kufatech USA price.

    Yeah, that's what it is. He has the Premium, not the Premium Plus.
    I've never "built" a Premium, so I didn't realize one could get NAV without the backup camera in America.
    Good luck with your install!

    The navigation package should come with camera = $4000?
    I just put one for my sister 2016 Q5 Premium Plus also 2 weeks ago. Not hard, just some work.

    Thanks everyone, i don t see the value in going oem for 700+ if you guys have had positive experices with afternarket .

    Appreciate the help.

    -Carsgadget seems well priced, 300, and the fact that they ask for pics to verify what set up you have reassures me that I'll get something that works.

    -This one seems to be the oem for 500$? Any thoughts?

    I just installed the system from Carsgadget. They have updated their wiring which eliminates the need of taking the glovebox apart and you do not need to tap into the fuse. Everything is now behind the climate control module.

    Overall quality of the camera isn't that bad but it definitely is not OEM. The rear camera images on our other cars that have factory systems are much superior.

    But for $300 it is a good deal.

    honestly the OEM backup camera is garbage too. if you think about it, our bodies were made in 2008 so that's why. Q is the last of the cars brought into the 2000's - its embarrassing the quality of screen and backup camera german manufacturers have. in 2012 the tesla came out with a HD 17" head unit screen PLUS full LCD screen for the dash. That was my #1 gripe against buying the SQ. in the end though, i couldn't find the other intangibles for anywhere near the same price (combination of tow rating for the trackbikes, sportiness, and interior space for le doges).
