    Parking brake cable replacement

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Alright so as i was replacing my frozen ebrake cable i noticed that both it and the good cable are still looped onto the self adjusting mechanism under the console. What happened is that the assembly ratcheted all the way up from lack of tension and i need to release it. I found one thread talking about this and that there is a special tool, he then made one but the pics are dead so i have no idea what it looks like. If someone could point me in the right direction that would be great.

Hey, you're in luck because I fixed this last week. You don't need a special tool, just jam a screwdriver into the little square hole in the middle of the mechanism.
Basically, what happens then is that the hooks will go all the way forward (sounds like they already did), but it will be possible to pull back the hooks. It's tricky to do if the cables are unhooked, I had to unhook one of the cables at the brake to get it on. You're probably gonna hurt your hands a bit while doing it and expect spending 20 minutes.
When you are done, refit the cables onto the brakes press into the hole again to make the hooks go as far forward as possible, apply the handbrake 3 times and you're done.

I did try to just jam a pick in there but nothing happened. Is there a specific way to do it? I remember a thread saying to twist 90 degrees but i dont see how thats possible
