Question about PCV for early (05.5) B7.

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I have owned this car for more than two years and never had to top off between oil changes. Suddenly, my car is loosing almost a quart of oil every 800 miles.
Before anyone says, another oil consumption issue, I am not asking "What would be a reasons for this?". I just want to confirm the part numbers for PCV.
While trying to look for the correct parts, I confused myself even more.

I have a 05.5 B7. I know there is a vin split in this year. Unfortunately, the sticker on the spare tire well is torn, so dont know the exact date. May need to call the dealership with Vin or I can put last how many characters of my VIN here.
I have been quite busy lately and would like to replace all the parts concerning PCV at once and not play "replace one at a time game".

Here is the information I collected on PCV:
    PCV: 06F129101N / 06F129101P / 06F129101R
    Gasket: 06F103483E
    Rear hose: 06F103221H
    Breather Tube: 06D103215A / 06D103213G
    Breather tube gasket: 06D131550D

Which of the above PCV and Breather tube does my car need? Or can I just buy the new version(made for Later B7s) of both PCV and Breather tube and not worry about the compatibility? Following:
    PCV:06F129101P
    Breather tube: 06D103215A

    Specifically something like this: https://www.ecstuning.com/Audi-B7_A4...-2.0T/ES11561/
    Plus
    Gasket: 06F103483E
Rear hose: 06F103221H (Do I even need to replace it if its not broken?)
Probably I will do Valve cover gasket at the same time, but I am sure there is no vin split in valve cover gasket part number.

I'd appreciate if Vendors like ECS, JHM could chime in too.

    Answering my own question:

    Confirmed with @Jake@JHM
You can use updated PCV with updated breather tube on 05.5 B7. No need to get the early B7 version if you are changing both parts. Cant mismatch early PCV with late breather tube and vice versa.
    Ordering soon.

Just did this job today. If you haven't taken your valve cover off before, be aware it's made of plastic. I used some channel locks to remove one of the breather tubes near the front of the motor, only to realize once it was off how close I came to crushing the tube and needing a new valve cover ($300).

Might give dealer a try before ordering then.

Still not decided whether to leave the breather tube alone and just do the PCV valve with. For early B7s there is a valve on PCV itself. So, the breather tube is essentially just a tube. Unless there is a crack on the tube, I dont think replacing the tube is necessary.
Or just replace both for peace of mind?

make sure it is bad. pull the oil cap off with engine running you should hear the pcv whistle or more like an air suction. then if you are sure give it to them.

I did both for piece of mind, it's just a flexible tube but keep in mind there's a seal on the turbo side that (probably hasn't but) might go bad.

Bump. Anyone able to provide insight on this. Im wondering what the difference in the two kits below would be. There is a $60 difference but aside from the bolts offerered in the cheaper kit, I see no difference. The cheaper kit also includes revision P regulator valve which per ECS, is the upgraded part with stronger internals. What makes the price so different?

    Cheaper kit:

    Higher price kit:

the two kits represent the split in vin .

the earlier kit has the check valve in the PCV valve and not in the return tube. The later kit has no check valve in the PCV valve but there is one in the return tube. I imagine price also has something to do with demand and how many they produce.

when you say return tube, do you mean the metal tube that goes to the turbo? or one of the plastic tubes that goes to the intake or oil cooler assembly?

Oh ok thank you. Makes sense. So unless I'm confused, per OP's second post. We can use either kit regardless of the year as long as we replace both the regulator valve and breather? Not mix matching parts.

yeah I would think so as it sounds like they just moved the check valve. But I think OP had massive oil consumption issues after doing that . So went back . I am not sure this was the cause however. Personally I would stick with what Audi recommends coz you just never know what other tricks they pulled. I have a 05.5 and decided to just stick with what vin number suggested.

Correct, you can use any kit regardless of year, as long as you use both updated or not-updated parts in conjuction. Do not mix and match.

The oil consumption issue is because of my blown turbo
coincidentally, the turbo blew the next day I put the updated PCV and updated breather tube. Was the new PCV and breather tube the cause of turbo going south? I will never know. But I put the old ones back because it made no difference. I am 99% certain that my oil loss was due to turbo almost going bad and replacement of PCV had nothing to do with it. It just happened to completely blow the same day. Massive plume of smoke as soon as you get into boost.

So, the answer is yes, you can use any kit as long as you dont mix and match.

Now, if I could only find a used turbo so I can put this car back on the road

What would happen if the parts are mixed and matched?

You would either have no check valve, or two check valves. The car would run but the PCV system wouldn't function properly. We stock these PCVs with clear information how how to determine what you need.

I might take you up on that. But need to change the turbo first. My k03 is 100% blown.

wow that totally sucks when you are trying to troubleshoot, something unrelated blows out the very next day. takes you down the wrong path. Did you consider rebuilding your turbo or having it done ?

    Yup, it sucks.
Resulted in me buying another car because I needed something to drive immediately. And I am just looking to replace it with a stock used k03 and sell the car. I don't need two cars. Its sad to sell it, but I have decided turbo cars are not for me. Its either NA or supercharged. For now NA will do. Lol.
