Attention Aftermarket Part Companies- Part Request Intake Scoops for the S3 8V

Hey Tuners: - 034, Emmanuele Design, APR, Unitronic, UM, IE, etc.

On my e90 BMW I added scoops to the intake behind the grille. AFE made some for $150, or the common one was a company called Cyba for about $40. They are pretty popular in the BMW scene. They basically grab the air going directly into the grille/radiator are and direct it up and into the OEM intake. They are some cut and bent and powder coated aluminum sheet.

It would be nice to have something similar to direct airflow up and into the openings in our grille. They made a noticeable difference on the BMW at highway speed. Never an issue with water or anything like that. The opening in the S3 grille is relying on high pressure air to make a 90 degree turn upwards and into the stock air box opening. On some it is blocked even stock. It is a very similar design to the stock BMW opening which these helped a lot.

Who can make these and test them?

Revo makes a CF intake scoop that has opening on side for the airbox and an opening on passenger side for the engine bay. It's not going $40 dollars, but it does help the stock airbox.

Right, that would help but this is to grab air and force it up into either the stock one or the revo thing you are talking about. This would help any intake really.

I don't think I have ever seen a "ram air" scoop on a forced induction car. I think the premise is the pressure from boost is greater than any "ram air" affect. I could be wrong, but like I said, most "ram air" setups have seen have been on N/A cars.

They are used a lot on the 335 BMW.

Do they run open air filters in hot engine bays on those cars? I can't tell from your pic, but that what it looks like to me. In a case like that, I am sure it help cool the air under the hood.

The best thing that you can do is cut a hole in the LHS of the intake catchment. Such as this: https://www.facebook.com/groups/s3ow...c_location=ufi

Scoops on the BMW do very little if anything.
