Our 08 vert S4 Carbon trim is peeling off the cork board. Around the gear shift it is curling up. Any suggestions on how to repair it?

I'm curious too; my gear shift piece is warped where it meets the ash tray cover.

I had oCarbon redo all of my interior trim pieces last year (the OEM carbon fiber layer on many of the pieces was warped and pulling off). oCarbon removes the existing top layer and puts down a new layer of real carbon fiber of your choosing. They did a great job- it actually looks better than new.

The downside? The wait was a couple of months longer than quoted.

$550 for the original style carbon fiber for the re-wrapping of all interior trim pieces. Custom carbon fiber options may increase the price a bit (he has a ton of different carbon fiber options... different weaves, colors, etc). Much better than buying new OEM trim for $2,000 and then (possibly) having the same delamination issues again at some point.

Note, however, oCarbon has had a bit of a spotty history here on AZ from a large group order that flamed out a couple of years ago. I had my replacement done last year, so oCarbon may be improving, but caveat emptor and be prepared for the fact that you may not receive your trim when quoted. The work is stellar though- looks quite a bit better than new to me.

you can also try headliner spray, the industrial type stuff, usually in an orange can with blue lid at local autozones, oreillys, etc.

Yep that's been the same complaint I have read over and over about them. Great work but forever to get back.

Someone told me a good body guy should be able to sand down the reapply clear coat.

If I get mine fixed I am gonna make sure the parts a sealed so they don't warp apart again.

Would the headliner glue be the best to use in this procedure or would there be any other suggestion for an adhesive? Thanks in advance!!

Epoxy would be the best solution if you were looking to simply "glue" it back in place. However, I do recommend getting the who piece redone as the clear and the resin in the original carbon has already deteriorated.

That is not true. In the very early days of carbon fiber, maybe. But not these days.

As long as the decorative surface is not damaged or yellowing, I would just take some gorilla glue (unless you have access to epoxy resin) spread a nice thin layer over the bottom and clamp it in place with some small bar clamps. Let it dry and you should be good to go.

Just make sure you have a clean surface and scuff up the bottom with a little sandpaper so you get good adhesion. Also wipe off the edges once you've clamped it so you don't have to any post finish work.

Should be ok. Is it flimsy? Will it easy rest in place? If not, may want to take it off (in your case where its almost all the way off anyway) and warm it up with heat gun on low or blow dryer. The let cool on a flat surface with a book on it. Then by a sun shade to prevent and close the sun roof slider.

Yeah headliner glue will work ok. I would recommend taking the entire piece out and clamping it together with the adhesive and letting it sit at least over night, that will get you the best results IMO. Could add a little heat with a hair dryer if you wanted to, but I don't think it will need it.

If you do put heat on it, make sure you don't let it get super hot. Warm to the touch is more than enough and keep the air circulating.

Ok headliner glue no gorilla glue is holding so far we will see!! So does anyone know anything that takes gorilla glue off? Some expanded on my clamp and on the surface of the carbon fiber!

Most types of glue branded "Gorilla Glue" are urethane glues. They cure by cross-linking rather than dry. That is, the process is not reversible with a solvent. The most that a solvent will do is swell some of the polymer chains and weaken the material a bit.

Mechanical force (sometimes aided by solvents like MEK) like scraping, sanding, chisels, etc. is generally the only tool that works on urethane finishes or glues.

That's why I said to wipe the edges off after you clamp it!

I would avoid sanding unless you know what you're doing/have experience sanding decorative fiberglass or carbon fiber.

What I would do is take a fresh razor blade held almost parallel to the surface and CAREFULLY scrap it off. Take care not to gouge the clear coat. Once you get the majority of it off, you could take a little scotch bright to it if you wanted to. This will leave the clear looking scuffed up though, so then take a little wax and wipe on/off over that area. It won't look perfect but it will be better than having a glob of glue on there, IMO.
