My wife and I started our return trip from Colorado to SoCal Saturday June 4th. As we are traveling thru Utah on I 70, at about 88mph (speed limit is 80mph), a CTS V ( appeared to be a new model) with dealer plates comes up on my rear so fast I don't have time to change back to the right lane before he changes lanes to pass me on the right. After a few minutes I decide to see if I can determine how fast he is travelling. I kick it up to about 120 and cruise there for a few minutes and I am not gaining on him. I back off and return to my cruise speed of 90. So, I told my wife he had to be doing over 120 and figure he must be able to afford the consequences if caught speeding that fast over the speed limit.
The stretch of I 70 that I encountered the CTS V has pretty smooth pavement. Even at 120 my A6 felt really planted. Wife said she could not tell I was going that fast until she glanced over at the speedo. To bad we can't legally cruise at that speed if conditions are good for it.
As a side note my A6 got 27 mpg average for the entire trip of about 2100 miles. My highway cruise speed was generally 7-10 mph over posted speed limit. Had a number of high speed passing required to get around idiot drivers hogging the left lane. Reached speeds of 100 to 110 get around these lines of vehicles. So, overall very satisfied with fuel economy results on this trip.
