10. How do I know my piston to wall clearance, and where do I get the measurement?
All JE and SRP Piston kits include a piston spec sheet with a piston to wall clearance recommendation. Always measure JE and SRP Pistons at the recommended gauge point, usually .500" up from the bottom of the skirt or where otherwise indicated on the spec sheet. Subtract this dimension from your finished bore size to determine your piston-to-wall clearance.

You should have a spec sheet that calls out the piston clearance, yours should be .004". Some people have had issues with piston slap and run .003" ( inches)

Short, you should have your motor fitted to the pistons you are planning on using. Most pistons are accurate enough that the shop can just hone to a specific dimension and the clearances will be correct.

You can also contact JE and get a recommendation. Mahle pistons use an aluminum alloy that does not expand as much and can run a tighter tolerance. That can reduce piston slap that some have complained about when the motor is cold.
