    DV valve noob question

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
As this is my first turbo and fairly recently purchased, how would I know if i have a bad dv. " down on power " is relative and does not help a new owner. Will a leaking DV throw a code ? ( I have an 06 ) was going to climb under and see if it has been upgraded at some point.

    Thanks

It would throw an under boost code I believe.
But taking a quick is the best way.

I just had a P2261 - 008 - Mechanical Malfunction - Intermittent. As others have seen, I had some power drops/surges - only perceptible if you pay a lot of attention to your car. A new piston DV seems to have solve it. Did it 3 days ago, haven't had a code since.

If you are upgrading your DV. Go the DV+ route. It's honestly one of the best bang for back upgrades both from a performance and reliability perspective.

I see people say that but I haven't seen any data to back it up. Is there data or is it just just butt dyno?

You're never going to gain power with a DV+. You'll also never have the same issues with a torn DV again. I installed mine a few months ago on my JHM Stage 2 tuned car and I notice better off throttle, on throttle response. Like I said, it's not a power adder, but it is a great investment.

It's not something that can show up on a dyno. But especially if you have a 6MT transmission you'll feel sharper boost responses after shifts

I think DV+ owners interpret having "power sooner" as "more power", which isn't completely inaccurate. An increase in response is basically an expansion of the power band. Even without an actual 'power increase' that is technically having "more power" because that power(albeit "stock") exists at an earlier point than before the DV modification.

I understand, we all know it's not going to make more power. I believe they are claiming less turbo lag. And if that's true, I wish there was proof.

The DV+ improved the OEM design DV to be essentially more failsafe and faster response to opening and closing. The diaphram design is very quick and "snappy" but failure probe to tearing the rubber diaphram with time (heat / oil) and thus vausing leaking under boost. The OEM piston design is very fail safe but slower to respond. It also does not seal 100% causing a smooth torque curve on boost due to this slower response and lack of 100% seal (but not enough leak to trigger an underboost code)). The DV+ maintains excellent seal and fast response without failure prone diaphram. It works with piston and pneumatic changes to snap shut on boost. There is a good video that GFB released on how it works, just search.

Best way to check your DV is to just remove it and check. Installing the GFB DV+ is a nice upgrade to never have to worry again and maintain best performance. I have not heard of a failure yet and mine runs great, easy install.

I didn't receive a CEL when my OEM DV failed. Likely would have never known if I wasn't tuned and I didn't have a boost guage because my blown DV would boost up to factory pressure, rather than the 22psi where it should have been after tune.
