You guys with coilovers or KW setup in snow regions...

Do you do anything to protect your investment? I am considering the KW adjustable springs kit or the ST coilovers. However, I am in Ohio and we have horrible road salt issues. Unlike my son's Subaru where we remove the coilovers and slap on the stock suspension easily, doing so on the S5 is hard and essentially not what I am willing to do. That means, adjusting the height and slapping on winter setup.

BUT... Over probably two seasons, I suspect that I will have corroded springs and surely grime infested threads that will hinder raising and lowering.

What is out there or what do you all do to protect the setups? I can spray some sort of silicone or similar on the threads and springs and hope for the best, but is there anything out there to assist or what do you all do each season?

Just asking because the install amount coupled with the kits have me wondering if I should just stick with OEM...

I live in QC most people here swap them out for the winter. Or just stick with oem and upgrade the rear sway bar and go for less un-sprung weight with lightweight wheels and tires.

How's your sewing skills? You could easily make up a set of sleeves from neoprene and Velcro and wrap it around the threaded part of the spring seat. Give them a coating of ACF50 before you fit the neoprene sleeves and you'll be well protected for winter.

You can probably buy these sleeves but it would be better to custom make a set you know will fit and they really are a piece of cake to make.

Unless you buy a stainless set your going to get some rust more than likely. My friend runs a set over in NJ with salty winters. He hasn't had any problems although he never really adjusts his. He went coils to get lower than what he had with a set of H&R OE's.

I actually recently put a set of H&R OE's on from him because he switched to coils to go lower. Have him $90 for the springs and free install by us on a Sat, why the hell not I figured. I'm a fan of preventative care so maybe spray them down with a non corrosion protector or the sleeve idea like James mentioned.

I didn't want to encounter any of that & wanted to keep close to the factory ride so I did H&R OE's & they worked out great. I'll probably replace my stock struts eventually in the next 15-20k with Bilstein B8 sports to keep it tidy.

I'm in PA so I would probably run into some rust issues as well if I did a set of H&R coils. My S5 is my DD all year rain snow or shine. You'd never know since I wash the damn thing every week no matter 10 or 100 degrees lol along with a detail every 6-8 months paint wise. All about that upkeep. I'd look into the sleeves and the corrosion preventative spray before winter starts if you stay coils.

Had the same concerns on my coils, especially since I raise up a bit in the winter.

Boeshield T-9 was recommended to me here and worked really well.

    Thanks, guys!

For the guys that swap them back and forth, is it tough once you do it the first time? I suspect that I could easily do it, but as I am a last minute guy, I'd probably have a major snowfall the day I decide to swap. :D

Seriously, though if it isn't that bad once you run through it one time, I am willing. I was going to do the install anyways on my own vs. $600 at a dealer.
