06 2.0T No crank, no start

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
This is on an 06 2.0T Quattro AT. I drove my car to a store without any issues. When I go to leave, it won't start. There is power to everything but the starter. I had somebody help me to jump it and nothing improved. The minimal research I was able to bring up was that it might be the starter relay.

Lately before this happened it was having longer slower starts. Which led me to think it would be the battery. But it was very intermittent and didn't relate to whether it was a long it short drive.

You may want to check the relays behind the cover under your steering.

If battery and ground connections are tight and you have. Good charged battery its likely the starter and less likely the ignition switch.

I am ruling out the ignition switch because everything else with the switch is working just fine. There was an aftermarket remote start installed on it previous to me buying the car. When I return from my business trip, that is being removed promptly. Which relay is for the starter?

I'd say it is most likely the starter itself. Have you been noticing it cranking slowly?

    1) check your relays anyway and battery terminals just in case

    2) remove any aftermarket remote start kit before your car explodes

    3) get your starter rebuilt locally

    Problem solved.

Rule of thumb for diagnosing a bad battery or bad starter...

If you try to start the car and hear repetitive clicks.... it's the battery.
If you try to start the car and you hear one click and nothing happens.... it's the starter.
If you try to start the car and you hear nothing at all and and your interior lights work (kinda).... Could also be the starter, or the battery is completely dead. This scenario would need further diagnosing.

There is no relay per se but the starter folenoid is bolted to the side of the starter so it's all coming out. Quite often the fine braided main starter wire fries.

Who rebuilds starters anymore? haha. Where could I find the rebuild kit?

I have ruled out the ign switch and the battery. The connections to the battery and the main ground are perfect. If there is no relay and it goes straight to the solenoid, I'll have to check for voltage.

I'll get a better look at the starter when I finally have a tow truck bring it back to my house. It seems to be very difficult to get one out in the middle of nowhere.

Does anybody have an ETM for this car or just the wiring diagram for the ignition and starter circuit? I need to do a lot more digging and make sure I get this remote starter out properly.

The remote start is now removed. It still won't start. There has to be a relay for it. Does anybody know which one it is?

Does anybody have wiring diagrams or troubleshooting trees to fit the conditions of my issue? I appreciate any help.

just get your meter on the small wire to the starter solenoid. if you have 12 v while trying to crank its the starter/ batt/ connections .

After finally getting my manual in the mail, I was able to locate the mythical starter relay. Before all this, I did replace the starter because it did show the symptoms of a bad starter. I tested for power before and after the relay with the key in start, tested good. I then checked down at the starter and the constant B+ and control both showed with 12V. I pull the starter out and inspect it. The pin to the control was bent down and to the side, clearly not able to make the connection. Now to just wait for replacement to show up.

Yeah brotha. starter and battery both went at the same time. now is starting so nice. though that bolt behind the transmission was terrible to take off what a shitty design indeed.

I used a through bolt ratchet similar to this one but older. The handle that I have is curved like a regular combo wrench. http://m.harborfreight.com/21-pc-sae...set-62305.html
The only mistake I made was not checking for voltage before taking it apart the first time.

I am having a similar case, it all started a month back, car would randomly not starting at all, but after couple turns of the key it would start up and car runs normal. All lights, radio, cluster, climate control, every thing seems fine, but no crank. This past Saturday morning it started up after I turn the key about 5 times, but today I parked my car at work and when I was leaving work it just won't start no matter how many time I turn the key. I ordered the ignition switch, being the fact that it is cheap enough and easiest fix to give a try, I hope it is the problem, but if anyone have any idea why, please share. Thanks

I'd check to see if the car is throwing any error codes.

I bought this thing for $20 and it shows codes on your phone using the Android Torque Lite app.

I figured out from that, and lots of googling, that it was likely the fuel pump relay. See more here: http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...2#post11852912
