    2001 Leather Seat - HELP!!!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hi all - new to the forum.

I posted this in the "Ask a Detailer" section and thought I might post here too...

I recently lucked into an awesome 2001 S4 Avant. It's pretty much perfect with only 110k miles on it. The leather on the seats are fantastic - at least they were until I went swimming this past Monday and evidently didn't dry off. Ran to the store left the sunroof open (and it was hot and bright out) and came back to basically what looks like "fried" spots on my leather.

I've used mink oil, leather conditioner, and leather lotion at this point and nothing seems to work.

Any help and guidance would be very much appreciated!

Unfortunately I can't post attachments and clearly can't seem to copy/paste....I'll work on this ASAP.

I did the same thing; the seats look like rhino butt. I figure if it bothers me that bad I can find a used set of seats for fairly cheap these days.

did you try using like a soft bristle brush to work the stuff in, sounds stupid try a magic eraser, those things take way more off than you would expect. if its from chlorine though id say its probably not going to work.

Don't use anything abrasive.. magic eraser would just remove the finish from the nappa leather. You'll probably need to re-dye the leather, if you swam in chlorine, is what I was getting at.

Interesting. :) Using it on Black Nappa leather? What kind of damage does it repair?

I wouldn't use the magic eraser personally. It's designed to act as an abrasive.

Try a mild all purpose cleaner and microfiber or horse hair brush.

won't repair damage. but will clean whatever is off the surface with ease. that being said, the surface. have cleaned grease out of alcantara with it, if that stupid fabric can handle it pretty sure the leather can.

Ah, yeah I'd use it on Alcantara not leather. The Alcantara is a faux suede that would be more durable than the leather finish.

Guys, it's not dirty or discolored, the leather got super dry from being moist and then quickly evaporating in hot ass direct sunlight. He needs a moisturizer but it's so labor intensive with marginal results.

If anyone has a solution that will actually doc the dryness that would be awesome. And don't say KY

    Ma.

Car leather seats are clear coated. I would use simple green first to clean everything (use bristled brush) . Then conditioner, like Meguiar's. For expert advice see my post above.

This stuff works for dry leather---BAG BALM....Amazon sells it in 8oz containers...You'll need to rub this stuff into the leather..massage the hell out of it, there is no way around that fact...it will take some time but will work...I got this tip from an acquaintance whose business is automobile detailing..It WORKS.
PS- I use this on the leather portions of my seats once a year
PSS- It has a bit of a medicinal aroma but that clears quickly...You'll also have real soft hands when done :)
