Better intake system for the 3.0?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Anyone else notice how small the inlet for the intake system is on the 3.0?? The inlet on the bumper is only about 1-1.5 inches by around 2 inch's and I feel like that's really restrictive. And I've tried just making a ram air but the piping for that got extremely hot and I felt like that was counteractive. I just got the jhm tune yesterday and installing the downpipes either Sunday or Wednesday but feel like I need a better intake, so any ideas?

Just from some quick math, I believe it is more like 4" wide, so 1.5" * 4" = 6 inē. The MAF piping is ~2.5" in diameter correct? So that is 3.14 * 1.25"ē = 4.9 inē. So, there is more open area for the intake pipe at the hood than the MAF pipe, so it is big enough.

No one really makes a CAI for the 3.0. I just use an AEM High flow dry filter. I also cut off the little support brackets on the inlet by the grill. Look at zingos thread for ideas too.

    Yah....I had a 1993 90 with the V6....

No one made mods for it....no one.

Plus the NA(naturally aspirated) or non turbo didnt respond with any significant gains when ya did mod it.

Ya wanna mod, get the 1.8t. Or drop in the V6 bi-turbo S4 motor. 400-500hp possible.

Unfortunately mods for 3.0 engine has been discussed so many times. There is nothing new to learn, search the forums. You want power 1.8t, 2.7t or supercharger on the 3.0 with a correct tune. I love my 3.0 but, I'm saving for a 2.7t swap. I already have the S4 6 speed matted to my 3.0.

Ahh this make a lot of sense, so I'm just going to leave it stock with the k&n drop in
I'm just trying to get the car a little quicker and I know I can 2.7 swap but there's 3 other b6's near me that have it and im just trying to do something different like a n/a build or supercharger (neither of which I'm trying to be faster than a stage 3 2.7t)

If you have an automatic transmission...its never gonna be any quicker....as the auto sucks up allot of HP...

Then excessive hard driving will make the automatic fail cause it cannot take the spirited driving...BTDT!

The Front wheel drive versions are quicker...they dont have to lug around the additional 500 pounds of Quattro!

    Have you seen this:

    https://jhmotorsports.com/shop/catal..._62_64_234_301

As we stated above, our JHM ECU Tuning you will give you noticeable improvements in the performance of your 3.0L. However, if you add our JHM 2.5" Stainless Steel Downpipes ON TOP of the ECU tuning, it will completely transform the power band of your car. If you are looking to unlock the potential of you 3.0L V6, these 2.5" downpipes are the key. Check them out in the Engine and Performance Section. They are an absolute MUST for anyone looking to get more power out of their car. Our extensive research proved this point time and time again. When we put our 2.5" downpipes on a stock car, the car was impressive and the increased airflow of the downpipes definitely made the car seem a bit more "peppy". However, when we put the downpipes on a car with a JHM B6-A4 3.0L V6 ECU Tune on it, the result was amazing. The combination of the increased airflow from the downpipes and the ability of the JHM ECU Tuning to take advantage of that increased airflow completely transformed the power band of the car. The gains in low-end torque were good but the most impressive power increase can be found in the top-end of the RPM range. With the motor breathing more freely and the addition of our ECU Tuning, the 3.0L just keeps accelerating up top!

Hah yep I got the jhm tune at 3zero3 motorsports (thank god for the flash tune) and have the downpipes just not installed yet (hopefully Sunday or next Wednesday). The tune is amazing by the way! Just need to fix this o2 sensor so I can get my gas mileage back and stop running rich.
