Timing chain tensionner / Hard to start / Crank no start / Crankshaft position sensor

Just want to share with you guys my last experience.

Got check light ON, i don't remember the exact code, but it was related to crankshaft position sensor. Also the engine was hard to start, i had to keep the key pushed til engine starts not like before when i had just to press and release it.

I drove almost 10 days like that thinking i only need to replace crankshaft position sensor. I ended up buying a new one from Audi. I was surprised when i replaced it that the engine still doing the same.

Few hours later, engine wont start anymore. Towed it home and did some research, to find out my timing chain tensionner was the problem.

    The chain jumped 2 tooth.

I was very lucky, valves were OK. Don't forget to replace the tensionner on these 2.0T as they always fail on B8's, i think from 2009 til 2012 or 2013 or it may cost you an engine.

    Good luck.

If you get a Stage 2 then Force them, at gunpoint if necessary. to do the timing chain, tensioner, and guides. Even if they say it isn't necessary yet. JUST GET IT DONE.

You'll probably have to pay for the parts but it's well worth it.

I had mine serviced under extended warranty. The chain was fine, but i got a new tensioner and a whole lot of other bits. Part of the job was covered due to my valve gasket leaking, but not the whole thing. Glad i got mine done now, i am at 75K. Good luck to those with these issues.

All timing chains stretch so the purpose of the tensioner is to keep it tight throughout the lifetime of the engine(correct me if I'm wrong). That's the defect, sudden failure in keeping it taut = recall.

I had mine done at 120k miles and the guides were still in great condition. We still swapped everything out though. Expect to replace the cover too as it's practically impossible to remove without bending it badly.
