    RNS-E Code

I'm considering purchase of an RNS-E for my b6. My question is in regards to a missing code. I understand you can vagcom for the pin once it is installed and allegedly with that and your vin the dealer can obtain the code. I called the local dealer and they didn't seem to know and clearly haven't done it before. Called AOA and they were no help as they considered it a "third party part". Can it reasonably be done and is it worth the hassle and risk? Can you get flagged for unknowing possession of a stolen unit?

Secondly, is there a big enough difference with later model units to justify price over a b7 era unit?

I would be sceptical taking such a risk - they're not exactly cheap either. You don't want a pretty, expensive but useless paperweight for your desk.

I would strongly consider the RNS-E from a late Seat Exeo. It's meant to be a LED display, and they really look great.

Tell the seller to double check the manual its usually there, hopefully that helps. If not research 100% how to get it otherwise it makes the unit useless to you

Without a doubt the 2010+ RNS-E is worth the extra cost - as well as a higher resolution display and faster processor it can use SDHC cards (up to 32GB each) for music instead of only SD cards (up to 4GB each - IF you can find them) plus you can retrofit AMI which gives many more music options (hard drive, decent iPod/iPhone interface,...).

    2010+

Note, they can come with a piano black surround in the screen or soft finish like mine, and with aluminum accent button or soft touch finish, again like mine.

Looks identical to the unit I was considering with the exception of the first two buttons: FM/AM, CD/SD

Which means it's the old unit...not identical as you said.

The legend on those 2 buttons is the easiest way to tell a pre-2010 RNS-E from a 2010+ RNS-E:

    FM/AM & CD/SD = pre-2010 RNS-E

    RADIO & MEDIA = 2010+ RNS-E

I see you attempted to contact Audi of America- generally it's a very easy process to get the PIN from them. I'm not sure how you presented the situation to them, if you just got a bad representative, or a combo of the aforementioned; but if you told them you didn't own the unit, that's may be why they would not give you the code.

I'd message them again via their online chat tool, and tell them you lost your security code. They'll ask for the serial number of the RNS-E and a VIN (yours will work), and they should then send the code to you- unless something has suddenly changed recently, that is how the process goes.

If it's not a stock part, they won't help you. So presentation as you said may be the key. Thanks for tip.

AoA will help, and will do it via email, they helped me, all I sent was my VIN and the S/N from the unit itself. Boom.
