Any ideas on what to do to make the wheels easier to clean?

Also what do you guys recommend for cleaning the wheels?

    What does opticoat do?

Opticoat helps with removal of brake dust. Makes wheels less sticky I guess. I had it done to my S6, and did it myself to two other cars. IMO it's not night and day, but it helps. Still need some sort of agitation. A series of different brushes, all found on any of the big auto detailing sites will make it easier. But cleaning wheels takes time. I spend almost as much time washing the 4 wheels and tires as I do washing the rest of the car.

Daytona wheel brush is my favorite. Wheel woolies are also good. Then a separate soft brush for the face of the wheel I use a spray on wheel cleaner like meg's non acidic wheel cleaner, let it dwell, then use soapy water with the said brushes.

Armor all makes an aerosol spray on product that is supposed to prevent brake dust from sticking. I bought some, even though I usually don't use armor all stuff. Still yet to try it

Definitely get opticoat , it's a "permanent" coating that will prevent dirt and brake dust from bonding to your wheels - will make cleaning much easier . Get some wheel woolies and nanolex wheel cleaner .

New brakes. :). My pads and rotors have about 1200 miles on them, and the dust is so bad I am contemplating a total replacement. This car produces more dust than any car I've seen. Terrible.

Opticoat it's self is not that expensive can probably get the entire car done for 600-1000 it's the paint correction /clear bra that will cost a lot more

My top 3 recommendations. 1. Get yourself some Gunmetal wheels! 2. Definitely get your wheels coated. 3. get a good wheel cleaner, I personally love Adams polishes wheel cleaner. You literally spray on wheels and about 85% of dust comes off when you rinse off with water.

The simplest thing to do is to use a dry microfiber cloth every few days. It takes about 2-3 minutes per wheel, depending on the wheel. So that is 8-12 minutes of time every 3 days or so. The dust will wipe right off with no effort whatsoever.

I use Adams detail spray and a microfiber...it leaves the wheels with a slick glossy coat and I think it repells brake dust. The bonus is your wheels smell like giant candies.😜

The Adam's wheel cleaner is great. I actually met Adam a few days ago. He is a super cool dude.

First off, consider switching brake pads. These OEM pads are dusty. I've gone with the recommendation of others and recently bought a set of Akebono Euro Ceramics.

While I think the Opticoat helps, there is a cheaper, easier to use product out there. Additionally, Opticoat doesn't actually repell the dust, it just makes it easier to clean off.

I don't know why more people haven't tried this product. It has recently gone under a name change but it the same formula. Talk about a night and day difference...I dare you to do 1/2 your front wheel and wait one week and see the difference. It will be obvious. Actually, here is a video I found just now.

Formerly called Armor All Wheel Protectant Spray it's new name is Armor All Brake Dust Repellent. I highly recommend trying it out. I've been using it for a couple years and it's a must for me now during my weekly wash.

The other repellent you could try is the Ammo NYC Gelee Wheel Protectant. http://www.ammonyc.com/shop/gelee-wheel-protectant/
Do it right, or don't bother.

Akebono brake pads! I agree with other users that they do have less initial bite, bit well worth the clean wheels in return.

How does something this "slippery" not get on the rotors and affect braking? I'm just scared of spraying that stuff on a mounted wheel

You're welcome. I'm glad someone else tried and confirmed. I'm super anal about my stuff and wouldn't steer you all wrong.

KT88, I don't have the scientific explanation. My guess is the friction based heat generated on the rotors burns it off immediately. It does a great job though. I spray it on my brake calipers as well to keep them clean. No issues with braking.

The other day I took off my wheels while working on the car, where I touched the wheels are now covered in brake dust. You can see my finger/hand prints clearly. This stuff does it's job.

Do not! Use chemical guys max coat wheel sealant. Very time consuming to apply, and does not work.

Well my pads needed replacing so I went with the Disc Italia. Huge decrease in dust. Prior to having the pads changed i did have opticoad and it didnt really do anything to help with removal or buildup. Right now I switch the pads and re did the car in arctic coating. WoW on the coating. Nothing sticks...and I mean nothing.

I went ceramic pads, the rears were replaced a few months ago, and fronts need them soon. The rear wheels are so much better now. Can't wait to get the fronts replaced.

I also went with Akebonos and new rotors on all 4 sides and my wheels literally have no visible brake dust for weeks. Best thing i've done to the car. Great stopping and not a single squeak.

I'm new to this forum. Just picked up my RS 7 and noticed the substantial amount of brake dust after several days of driving. Can anyone tell me:
    1. Which Akebonos you went with (I see several models of Euro ceramics).
    2. Is it necessary or recommended to change the rotors if you go with ceramic pads? (my car has 18K miles).
    3. Any cons to the ceramic pads or is it a no-brainer to get rid of the OEM's?

    Thanks, Fred

Congrats on your new car; I hope you love it as much as I love mine. I recently tried Armor All's aerosol product and, I have to say, it works pretty darned well. Try it first before you go to the trouble, expense and risk of getting non-OEM brake pads.

Second this. After reading this thread, I headed right out to the store and applied it last Sunday. A week later there's barely any noticeable dust. They would've been caked in that brownish ugliness by now without it applied.

Just be sure the wheels are COMPLETELY dry or you'll be left with some runs. As you apply it, the spray knocks any remaining water loose from any crevice around.
