Ok I admit it, my reasons for making thIs thread are purely selfish. I myself have a Black 13 S4 and I'm looking for ideas for what looks good on our black cars.

So sue me.

Winter and Summer set up, been working on performance/suspension since I bought it. I do have the blackout tape on the front grill now, no new pics. On the fence with RS4 Grill and Fog grill to match and blacking out trim, may leave it be.

Do you use a black car wax all around and what's good?

Gloss is about the quality of the polishing done. If a car isn't polished out perfectly it won't be as shiny and even if you apply a high gloss product like a ceramic coating it will actually amplify any swirls or scratches and micro marring. In terms of a Last Step Product (LSP), there are Sealants, Waxes and Coatings. Coatings are the most durable, add a high if not the highest level of gloss and are great especially for those not into detailing on a regular basis. Sealants are synthetic products that amplify shine more than a wax but often have a cooler tone but do last and are very durable. Waxes which are often used to top a sealant can add a warmth and depth. True depth is a result of polishing and can be amplified by a glaze or a glaze/sealant combo.

There are lots of great products in each category. Overall however, true paint correction is what you should look for first.

Here's a combo I used to prepare my car for winter last year. I have my car polished out perfectly, top it off ocaasionally with a jeweling was (McKey's 37) and will even top that off with Blacklight which is a combo glaze and sealant. From there I will amplify things with a Carnauba or in this case a hybrid blend in Collinite 845 which is known for durability, especially in snowy areas. In the summer I'll use a Montan Wax which is much more suited to an even deeper gloss and higher temp resistance.

Thank you sir! Correction on black is a love/hate thing given how tedious it can be. Keeping it that ways isn't too bad, just involves different techniques when cleaning it. Love my black but not a day doesn't go by that I don't wish I picked white

I'd be very curious to know what you used on your paint to polish it out "perfectly". Every Brilliant Black car I've worked on, including my own, has been an absolute nightmare in terms of swirls and marring. I'm able to achieve 100% correction on my own car and can take pictures that look perfect just like you've done. However after the first wash following a correction, light marring and swirls are back when using a sealant or wax. Heck, even just using a low-GSM microfiber to wipe the paint will induce marring on this color with a 100% corrected and clean paint surface. This is a well-known issue with two Audi colors: Brilliant Black and Estoril Blue.

Again, polishing is rather "easy" on this color because it's so soft, but keeping it protected is an extreme challenge it seems.

I recently did a full 100% perfect correction on my own car that took me over 20 hours to complete. Safely removing polishing oils prior to coating without inducing marring was a quite a challenge. I applied 2 coats of Optimum Gloss-Coat, which I'm hoping will improve marr and swirl resistance a bit. I plan to throw some sealant on top of it after my next wash just for added protection.

I had to cut a good chunk of swirls out and went with a 2 step process. First up was Menzerna FG400 on a Meguiars Microfiber Cutting Disc. I followed that up with a Rupes white pad and Menzerna SF4500. Both steps done with a Rupes LHR15 MarkII.

Are you also using 22PLE sealant? (According to your signature)

I'd be very curious to know what you used on your paint to polish it out "perfectly".

Initially Menzerna 4500. HD Speed this spring followed by McKeys Jeweling Polish.

However after the first wash following a correction, light marring and swirls are back when using a sealant or wax. Heck, even just using a low-GSM microfiber to wipe the paint will induce marring on this color with a 100% corrected and clean paint surface.

Key is in wash and dry techniques. I've published my rinseless washing technique here before. I will try and Link you to it when I'm at a computer.

Also when drying only use the blotting technique. Microfiber towel wise i use nothing less than 480 GSM. I only do rinseless washing. Way safer than a hose and bucket method when done right.

I would suggest you one-step it with HDSpeed. White pad maybe orange if you need it. I use a flex 3401. Not sure what the pad color equivalents are for Rupes.

Are you also using 22PLE sealant(According to your signature)

No longer. I did apply it after I initially bought and corrected the car but have since perfected the paint and removed it. I like coatings but not so much on black as it will still marr and I can jewel polish it to correct that oh so easily.
