    Effect of LW rotor ?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Who felt the difference of 5lbs shaving from LW rotor ?

Just curious.. most ppl who start thread about 2 piece rotor end up with discussion about braking distance and heat retention etc etc. I don't track the car, if i go 2piece, i guess it would be a toss between JHM or girodisc, but till then I'm more interesting in the weight difference. I have LW rims and swear I could feel a less sluggish acceleration compared to my oem rims.

However, since the mass bolted directly to the hub, I would think it has a lesser effect compared to rims. feel free to report your thought ! Cheers!

Rotors are so close to the rotational center you probably would not feel very much of a change.

Good random read I just found if you are curious: http://www.w8ji.com/rotating_mass_acceleration.htm

Got ECS 2 piece LW that they advertise at 25% less per corner and didn't feel any difference

Just put mine one, ECS 2 piece, but have not driven much with them. I imagine your not going to feel much. I am also putting on new wheels that are 5lbs lighter so curious if I will feel the combination of the two.

Off the line acceleration in first gear is where you'd likely notice it the most. This is were the the greatest mechanical leverage is. Same could be said about a light weight flywheel. Any improvement would be the greatest in first gear.

This. It's not open to interpretation, it's physics capable of being proven with formulas.

The acceleration advantage of a typical car brake rotor with less mass vs a std one is about 1.2x actual weight savings IIRC. The formula to prove that out is a lot more complicated but that's the close approximation.

There are other advantages to lighter rotors, but for the cost vs what they give you for acceleration, there are cheaper ways to lighten the car to decrease mass and help acceleration.

I did LW wheels and JHM rotors front+rear at the same time. The combination of both made a noticeable improvement in my launches. How much? Not sure exactly. When I was single pulley and did those two things, my 60 foots dropped from mid-high 1.7x to consistent high 1.6x/low 1.7x on pump gas

The biggest benefit you would/nt notice is extended life of your ball joints. Since you are decreasing unsprung weight with rotors and or rims. It will help take some stress off those ball joints
