My first S5 mod - new grille

I know that most of you could probably do the install with one hand behind your back... but it was a little tense for me. Following the advice here I also painted that aluminum bar using plasti-dip.

It came out great and I'm ready to move on to the next mod! Thanks xuandatou for the suggestion on retaining my S5 badge, it worked perfectly. Here's a pic of the result... the car is dirty but I was excited and exhausted.

    Ditto.

I forgot to attach mine while the grille was off the car . No way I'd glue it.

    Nice work!

I'm in the process of buying a grille and installing it too. Any special tools needed or unexpected problems?

I'll never understand how people have mods sitting around and don't get overly excited to install them. I just get way too excited when I have parts sitting around, which unfortunately sometimes results in staying up and burning the midnight oil to get things done in time to drive to work the next morning.

lol trust me, it's not lack of excitement...I've just been too busy for my own good, and the free time that I've had I've spent traveling. I'll get to it soon enough! :)

Nothing special beyond basic hand tools. You'll need some torx bits and a socket extender to reach a couple bolts but that's it.

Me either lol. My emblem is actually sitting in the center console :(

It's easier while it's off the car but I forgot.

Thanks everyone! I used this scotch extreme mounting tape to re-attach the emblem, once I had carefully removed it from the old grille.

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I wasn't 100% sure at first but it doesn't feel like it will budge at all. The stuff peels off too easily enough, so I can always remove it later. According to xuandatou it survived his Minnesota weather so it should do well in Michigan too. ;)

Edit: I bought it at USP motorsports I think it's ok to mention them as they're a sponsor? No problems or special tools needed... the instructions were decent I also did a search and found a set from another vendor that worked well too.

Sweet ill have to give it a try, Just thinking of it i didn't think double sided tape would stick well. But i i will give it a shot.

Yes, USP is a sponsor i also got my B8 S5 grille from them, think the brand was AgressiV or something. Fit perfect like OEM as well. I wonder why the face lift B8.5 version from them does not come with the black plastic part that covers the bumper rail so you don't have to paint or plasti dip. Id assume they are the same brand? Maybe the bumper rail sits further back on the B8.5, none the less quality grille foe the money compared to the black optic OEM grille which is almost $700 new with the filler plate .

Good mod looks really good. Doing it yourself is the best way to learn. Saw once a guy made a backing plate at lugs from black plastic with a second plate and nuts looked awesome. And removable if he wanted to go stealth.😊
