Options for getting a front license plate holder

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I have an S7 (2016), which I originally bought in an area where only a rear license plate was required; so my model doesn't have a holder in the front.

I now moved to an area where they require that I have a plate in the front; but now I'm not sure what the best option is. I talked to Audi and they said that I can pay to get the front grill replaced (600$ based on my model); but that specific grill I need is backordered.

Are there any other options? I'm pretty desperate, as I'll get ticketed by the cops if I don't have a plate in the front; and I don't want to drill holes into it - that is definitely not an option.

Could always run a tow hook plate until you find the plate holder on here or another site like eBay.

I like the US Millworks plate holder on my B7. It's made of quite high-quality metal, isn't flimsy whatsoever, installs easily, and, IMHO, looks much better than the Rho-Plate. The Rho-Plate also scratched up my bumper because the center screw stripped, so it was loose and would not tighten anymore, whereas the US Millworks one was a piece of cake to disassemble.

I have US milworks for my M3, and just ordered one for my S6. I agree with Audibot, US milworks product is very well made, very solid. For my M3, I ordered a different tow hook bracket that protruded out much too far. The milworks on the other hand, is very close to the bumper, looks good. Once I get it for the S6 will post a pic

I went to the millworks site, but it doesn't give me an option to select 'S7' - it just had S6.

My only concern is that it may block the parking sensors on the S7; or does it work fine?

No idea. I imagine you could call them up and ask about it. They may have more insight, but I imagine it doesn't; if anything, I think it'd slightly block airflow to one side, or rather disrupt it.

Well, I have a 2014 S7 with a license-holding grill that I would like to replace with an non-license version! I live in Pennsylvania and a front plate is not required, but I picked my car up in Germany with the European Delivery option and the Germans require a front plate. I did a little research and found that the grill is made of three pieces and the middle piece can be swapped out, but even that requires quite a bit of work (removing the bumper, etc.), so I never did it. It probably isn't practical, but I'd love to just swap my grill part for yours with no cost other than labor. I'm not sure if the '14 and '16 grills are the same (also mine model has the Black Optic package, which may be a different grill than the standard), but if they are, it might be worth considering.

Contact Alex at Europrice. I have gone full circle - I live in IL but hated the look of the required front plate. Ordered the plate-delete style grille section from Alex and ran that for 6 months. But after two tickets I have gone back to the one with the plate.

I accessed it from above - I removed the flexible rubber/plastic thing that bridges the top of the grill and engine. That allows you to get your arm down in there. There are multiple plastic clips that hold that center grille section in place. Once you have the new one in your hand you will have a better idea on how to get those clips undone. I used those plastic body trim removal tools I got at my local Harbor Freight tool store and a small flat screwdriver to push down on the clips. Good luck!

Hey, if you still have the plate-delete grill piece, maybe you'll sell it to me (assuming the '14 and '16 use the same grill). Do you still have it?

I'd be so irritated if I had to have a front plate... I'm mad just thinking about it for you guys. Ha!

I was just over in Austria and Germany for a week and even the supercars there wear a front plate so I didn't feel too bad. And theirs are way wider than ours.

You dont need a new grill to fit the front licence plate holder, and its definately not $600!

Have a look at these guys if your dealer isn't playing ball. https://www.bks-tuning.com/

Right - The part that gets swapped out is only the center section of the grill. About 7" tall if that.

Thanks for all the help guys!

I emailed those 2 plates (europrice and bks-tuning) - hopefully they have something that works.

The other option is the tow hook plate - does that actually look alright on an S7? Or is the normal plate holder in the middle much better?

And how hard is it to go ahead and remove that center section of the grill? Is it just clipped on under the hood? I just don't want to go screwing around and mess the car up :/

I really wish someone made a high quality show&go-style plate holder. The cheap plastic just doesn't do it for me.

On the post-facelift S7 the center section of the grille can be replaced and then a separate US sized plate holder is attached to that center trim. Dealerships sometimes...

I've sent over an email to get you all set.

    Cheers,
