    What A4 to buy?

    Hey,
So I'm really interested in buying an A4, but I'm having a difficult time deciding which year/model and what packages are necessary. I'm currently deciding between:
2017 Loaded Premium plus a4 w technology, sport (50k msrp)
    2017 Premium w convenience and 18' wheels (43k msrp)
    CPO 2016 loaded a4 (s line competition, technology, sport) (39k w 6k miles)
CPO 2015 loaded a4 premium plus (technology, sport, s line competition) (32k w 17k miles)
Theres a pretty big price difference between the first and last. Buying the loaded 2017 wouldn't be an issue in any way financially, just a matter of whether it is worth it. I would generally lean towards either of the CPOs, but the 2017 seems to be a substantial improvement over previous generations, and I should be able to receive a decent discount on the 2017s.
Are there any significant differences between the 2016 and 2015? and how much would I be losing with the premium plus 2017 versus the premium?

Thank you very much for any help and info, really appreciate it!

I'd Get a 2016 S4. Don't loose money off the bat by driving a brand new car off the lot.

However, 2017 comes stock with 255 horses. Run the VIN# on each car with Audi customer service 8008222834 if you want to know specific information. Sales guys sometimes do not know anything. Good luck.

What car(s) do you own currently and have you owned in the past? What are your main priorities in a new car? Prestige, comfort, handling, performance, etc.

What is your style of driving? I intend to track my car, weekend canyon running, average daily driver, hauling clients around, etc?

Have you test driven all these cars? Which one(s) are you gravitating towards?

While it is always nice to drive a new car off a lot, I would always argue to go with a CPO that is a year or two older (like the two CPO options you stated). Better bang for the buck imo. Just my two cents.

Thanks a ton for all the help and replies!
yea normally I would definitely want to take advantage of deprecation and get a CPO, only reason I'm considering making an exception is because the 2017 a4 seems like a solid improvement. I think that the premium 43k 2017 is out, would rather get premium plus and more packages for sure. I currently have an Infiniti Q50, me and my dad plan on switching off. I was previously considering an s4, but they're definitely more expensive and insurance would be higher as well, and I think I'd be fine with having a much lower power car. I plan on daily driving to school, golf, etc no track or canyon runs. I think im leaning towards the CPOs, planning on going and test driving everything sometime soon.

After owning 2 CPO a4's I can say that it's definitely worth it. Warranty covers just about everything not to mention there are a ton of tests the car has to pass in order to be a CPO. Good luck and I'm sure you'll enjoy whatever you choose

Be wary of any first-MY Audi. At that price point, CPO S4 is a no brainer.

Where do you guys keep seeing a CPO S4?

I'd normally say go for the CPO, but now that the new design A4 is hitting the streets, the value of the B8/B8.5 is going to start dropping substantially.

The changes with the new B9 A4 are significant. It's a huge leap forward and is a very nice vehicle. More HP and the DSG make it loads of fun to drive in a spirited way (if you catch my drift). The interior ergonomics and spot on. The TFT instrument panel is great!

My only grind about the B9 is the MMI screen that looks like it was attached to the dash. Audi does extraordinary interiors, but the design of this was thoughtless.

waiting a year definitely is a great option... if only I was patient hahah. For S4s, just doesn't seem like the deals are as great and not as many either. I'll have to test drive and see if I'm ok with the A4

If purchasing, I would not get a new 2017 a4 because it is first MY. Wait a couple of years to see kinks worked out and new upgrades released too. It's tempting to want to go brand new, but if you have issues in a new first MY car, they can result in multiple trips to the dealer to figure out what's going on.

I would buy a cpo now, year 2014 or higher as there are very few changes after that MY. Sline and tech packages should definitely be there. Black optics, competition, or comp plus can also be considered if that's what suites your taste. In a few years when you are closer to the end of your warranty, you can sell or trade in your car and put that towards a new B9 when kinks have been worked out and newer options are made available.

Make sure it is not a front wheel CVT tranny. I bought a 2014 and didn't realize the lag wasn't a turbo lag. I added an APR tune thinking that was the lag but it is the damn tranny. It sucks and I hate the car 90% of the time. I am either giving it to my wife or trading it in for something different.

Yes, he's telling you if it isn't a quattro, don't buy it.

I agree with purchasing a CPO B8 vs. a new 2017 A4. First few years with Audi's don't always turn out great - e.g. B7 with cam follower issues, B8 with oil consumption issues, etc. I too looked at a 2017, but decided I just didn't want to write a check for $40+. Never purchased a CPO car before (most of my cars were bought new, but kept for a reasonable period of time ~ 5-6 yrs.). I decided to look at CPO Audi's and ended up buying a 2014 CPO A4 Premium Plus (oil issues resolved in 2012) last weekend, and am super happy with the purchase. Also has 4 more years of warranty as a CPO. I came from a 2008 A4 with 124K miles. Good luck!

Get the one with Quattro and a manual transmission. That won't be a 2017 so you'll end up saving money too.

Just for a price reference I was able to get a late 15' S4 with only 3 K miles for $43K ($57 sticker) few months ago (of course after negotiation). Someone bought it new from Audi Manhattan and changed his mind quickly. I asked the sales manager why someone would sell a virtually brand new car and he just said: "This is Manhattan, people have all kinds of money and do all kinds of crazy sh*t". I could't be more happier as the car is equipped right and color combination was chosen tastefully. I think the way things in the auto industry are going manual transmission performance cars with low mileage will hold value and will be easier to sell in future especially If It's kept stock (I went with Audi because I want to stay stock.Tired modifying turbo charged Subarus). Do not forget of the joy shifting your own gears and keeping the RPM's exactly where you want them. This of course depends where you live and how you like to drive(Or ride :-)). I honestly feel bad for commuters who need to drive auto.
