I was interested in black AR from M&I too, but it had to many mile on it and I was not happy with black color.... I ended up with ice silver. Scuba blue looks awesome. Just subscribed on the thread, I wanna see what you going to do this time. I cant decide on coilovers and tune, maybe you will give me ideas.....

Glad to see you picked up another Allroad, your first one was one of my inspirations to go the Allroad route. Looking forward to seeing what this one evolves into!

Welcome back! Like others have said, your prior build was entertaining and inspirational to my own ongoing build. Looking forward to seeing how this one evolves.

Last week, I had the scuba tinted and lowered ... and some other stuff. First, the pics:

    • 35% tint all around, 50% tint on the windshield
•*H&R coilovers (same set from my last allroad)
    •*Hotchkis sway bars
    •*SPC control arms
    •*Magnaflow exhaust
    • Eurocode high-flow cat
    •*Vorsteiner VFF-104, 20x10, et30. 5mm spacers in the rear
    • Hankook evo2 255/35/20 tires

I hadn't planned to do sway bars this soon, but it just made sense to do it now while the car was in the shop and the exhaust would be off the car.

I'm very pleased with how the wheel & tire fitment worked out, and the control arms really helped dial it all in. No rubbing so far, though the springs might settle a bit after being unmounted for so long. I might put some 3mm spacers on the front. I chose these wheels to get away from what I had done in the past, and I've always loved 5-spoke designs. I'd been eyeing RS5 rotors for a while, but wanted to try something I hadn't seen on an allroad yet. Now I need bigger brakes though. I love the depth of these VFF-104's. Vorsteiner has some awesome wheel designs that all look so good on the allroad.

    Specs:
    Front camber -2.0º
    Rear camber -1.7º

Next mod is to actually register this thing and get some license plates. I'll probably tune it next month shortly before heading out to Camp allroad towards the end of the month.

+1. I am very envious of your wheels. I wish I had come across these before going with the Wheels I do have. I prefer a "clean" wheel and these Vorsteiners definitely fit that description. Easy to clean!

There is a not insignificant chance I'll copy you on this one. I do need a set of dark colored wheels...

Good choice with doing 50% on the windshield. I did 15% all around and 50% windshield on mine, worked out very well.

Amazing combination with the color and wheels, and those 5 spokes! I am between wagons right now and you just confirmed my first purchase for the next car, an Allroad. Was thinking of doing 5 spokes but don't see it too often, I'm starting to look around as I'd like to have wheels and suspension ready to go whenever the wagon Gods decide the time is right. We also had a baby and needed the SUV, but hope to be back in the near future.

Can't find any sort of sound clips for the magnaflow, I see it keeps the front resonator. Any thing you could liken it to sound wise. I've read good reviews but I'd like to hear something.

^^^I've been meaning to make a professional sound clip (me being a professional audio guy afterall...) but haven't gotten around to it. Maybe I will this week.

The sound is deep and smooth without being obnoxious. It installs after the first resonator/DP, so yes it retains it. I had a CTS straight pipe DP on my car for 2 seconds which made the car sound like a dying tractor. The Magnaflow works and sounds great with the stock DP.

I'll echo this. I had an aftermarket downpipe on my last allroad with the Magnaflow and did not like it at all. Too much drone. Replacing the stock DP made all the difference. The new one still needs to go through a few more heat cycles, but so far I really like it. Not many exhausts out there that can make the 2.0T sound this good, especially for the price of the MF.

I'm at 25.5" front and rear. Your B8 avant has different fitment than an allroad though. I had 20x9 et35 wheels on my S4 with 255/35 tires and it was perfect.

Awesome thanks for the info the sellers current tires are 255/45 and I was hoping to use them for a while since there was tread left but seems if I pull the trigger on these I will likely need new tires which gives me an excuse to refinish the wheels.

Can't wait to see what you do with this build cause your last was amazing, unfortunately my commute is to far and wouldn't risk buying a higher mileage allroad so had to pay more for lower miles.

255/45 sounds like a Q5 fitment. Those tires might look a bit odd on a B8.

Yeah I thought the same and I really shouldn't buy the wheels right now since the timing is not good with waterfest so close but the deal is so good I was hoping to get away with using the wheels as they are but looks like I should wait since they really are not my first choice for wheels anyway.

    Thanks for the help

I'm pleased to see that the black allroad that I almost bought in Chicago has gone to a good home. Can't wait to see how it progresses.

And I will admit that I'm also pleased to see that the monsoon allroad I almost bought is still for sale on the dealer's lot, but just out of spite after those guys dicked me around. The price today is $25,383, well below what I offered to buy the car for. I bet they're wishing they'd been a little bit more accommodating two months ago.

As I mentioned in my previous allroad thread, I had a set of Whispbar S45 railbar crossbars to mount my bike racks and cargo box. Originally, I also had a Yakima SkyBox16 cargo box, but as noted in the roof rack post in my allroad megathread, the Yakima box's clamps are too big to use with the Whispbars (even though Whispbar is owned by Yakima). So I sold the SkyBox and got a Thule Force XL 625 box. The Thule's clamps are smaller and don't require as much clearance under the crossbar.

Still, the Whispbars sit pretty low between the rails, and because of this, I managed to snap the cover off of my sharkfin antenna when mounting my cargo box in preparation for Camp allroad last year. If you look closely in pics of my car from Camp allroad 2015, you may notice that my "sharkfin" is actually a lot of black electrical tape wrapped around the exposed electronics of the antenna. And while the Thule box's clamps are smaller, I did still manage to put some nice scuffs on the roof of my black allroad when mounting the box. So, while I liked the low profile look of the Whispbars, they just weren't ideal for a roof box. Plus, as some others have noted, the Whispbars interfere with sunroof operation.

To address both these issues, I just put a set of Thule AeroBlade Edge crossbars on my scuba allroad because they sit up a little bit higher and offer more clearance between bar & roof, but they still don't sit as high as some of the other crossbars that sit on a raised foot. I also like how the Thule AeroBlade Edge wraps around the allroad's rails for a bit of added strength and security. The Whispbars clamp down onto the rail like a vise but don't have the added reinforced strap.

Since I still have the Whispbars, I thought some might to see how the two compare. I'll go into more detail in the allroad megathread, but here are a couple comparison shots:

I just like how the whispbars fit so much better over the rest. Do you have a photo of the cargo box on the thule bars there?

I wonder how the black version of the thule bars would look. Probably not very good as the roof rails are silver already.
