New help identifying manifold vacuum elbow to order right one. -Picture inside-

I discovered on my 4.2 S5 i have a torn vacuum elbow on the front side of the manifold. It has a good slice in it and i think its what is causing my intermittent p2006/p2007 intake manifold flap stuck in bank 1 & 2. Most people who have both of them have a vacuum leak somewhere. I giggled the hose a bit and with much more air escaping it causing the engine to idle rough and throw a misfire code. I was able to shove it back on just enough to get air slightly escaping compared to t pouring out.

I ran up to Autozone to get some vacuum line, but after discovering the elbow has two different Interior Diameter sizes the one size vacuum line wont cut it. The side going into the manifold is slightly larger. I tried to get it over but it just slices the hose and its already tight getting it on there where its located. I am trying to locate it on the damn OEM diagram but i cant see to find it on there, i am not the best with the engine diagram to begin with . I can turn a wrench though lol

So if someone can help me out so i can either order this tonight or run up to audi tomorrow as their parts counter might have something like this in stock. Here is a picture of a manifold i grabbed off google and where its sliced on my car. It comes from the lower manifold and goes into what looks like a check valve? I appreciate the help fella's. Yay for more bloddy knuckles getting this in

Anyone know exactly what the vacuum line serves, i am guessing it has to do with something with the manifold flaps, since there are right in the front on either side of this inlet. That is a guess, other side seems to connect to a check valve and a T to another vacuum. From what i read vac hoses on the front of the vehicle usually are the ones that will throw a p2006/p2007 code for the flaps being stuck closed because of a vac leak.

Interesting...two different inside diameters for a vacuum line? Gotta love german engineering. Sounds like this is something you'll have to source at the dealer, unfortunately. Take the elbow line off and bring it with you to an autoparts store and see if you get lucky?

That is German engineering! I discovered this when i got home it was two different diameters. I thought about some crafty ways like make a coupling or a T but no dice and the kids there are annoying at autozone. They want to talk more about the car rather than help at the task at hand! Which i don't mind but i was hungry and just wanted to fix the damn car haha. I was trying to get the part number so i could call Audi in the am so see if they have one and run up and grab it. S5 is the lone car i have right now I did shove the vac line up pretty good, still slightly escaping i am sure. Put a little electric tape around it for some DIY goodness for the time being.

How many miles does your car have? Just curious as I have never heard of anyone having this issue, and I've been around 4.2 s5's with mileage ranging from the 40k's all the way up to the 100k's.

My '10 is at 56k, but my colleague had a 2009 with 75k and other than the cracked overflow reservoir (known issue with the 4.2), I can't remember anything else needing to be replaced in the engine bay. Is your car exposed to extreme heat? Are you in a lot of bumper to bumper traffic?

Nah nothing crazy car actually looks like it has way less miles since I'm super OCD with it care wise. I don't drive in rush hour traffic or anything. Probably if anything should drive it harder more often lol.

My friends 2008 needed to have his thermostat replaced at 98k. Also he had a cracked overflow. First problem with mine. I don't ever really need to add any oil either in between 5k changes which I think is impressive for a 4.2 Audi V8 motor.

Just put H&R OE's on yesterday, finally.

Cool...yes in the world of OCD, I reign lol ... my '10 looks perfect for a 6 year old car. My engine bay looks just like yours. Maybe you have the one car that needs that line replaced at 75k miles - no biggie, every car is different!

I think the older i get the more OCD i get haha, i am 31 now. My Dad always taught me to take care of my "shit" & it will do the same growing up. Well the odd thing is, most elbows or short vacuum lines i have replaced in my Audis are usually stamped VW Audi or have rings on it. This didn't have that, and did not have a time clamp thing on it, you know those stupid metal hose clips you have to break? I have only had the car for about a year now. The hose was marked i "think" AEH 01-42-09. I googled that no bueno.

Maybe i am looking at the wrong diagram. Perhaps its the lower intake manifold diagram i need to find the damn hose

Maybe it's already been replaced once, with a hose that does not belong there, explaining the lack of Audi stamping or the fact that it tore on one of the ends? Do you have the history of the car and all work performed in the past? That may be a good place to start for your own knowledge, not like it's going to fix anything as you already know you need a new one.

I do it's had all the correct services from Audi dealerships via the carfax. Nothing out of the ordinary. I'll keep googling or see if a diagram pro comes along to save the day. Worst cast I drive to Audi, pull it off the car & say I need this haha! May even have one on site, good chance.

Yahtzeee! It is marked the same as mine, found this via ECS tuning. And they have it listed as a VW/Audi OEM original part, so the torn hose is OEM. These bastards only sell it in a kit for $90 Now to find it by itself.

Hard to tell via the picture, but the interior diameter is in fact different sizes. Slightly different on the OD if you look close.

Well they are selling a full vacuum hose refresh set for $90. I just need that hose by itself. Gotta dig around or go to Audi they should have it.

The angled hose i need is on the left side by #45 which is the check valve it connects to. There is no number for the individual hose. Is it a double of another on the diagram? Only angled hoses i see are number 30 and 55. I hate these diagrams lol.

Vanimal, did you ever successfully find a replacement vacuum elbow?! I am in the same boat as you were -- Having no luck google shopping for a replacement :(. This thread was the only relevant search result for the "AEM 01-42-09" hose elbow.
