3 Years in the Making

So I am pretty excited about what transpired this weekend.......

Just bought an Imola RS4 that has not seen daylight since 2010! It has 16k original miles, and I purchased it site unseen! Quite a risk I know, but I trust the owner and know that they would never screw me. The car is over 1000 miles from me, so I talked an Audi dealership close to the car into rescuing it from the underground parking facility that it has sat in for the past 6 years. Should have more info this week. I am planning on flying out to get the car and driving it home at the end of June! I am excited about this adventure. I assume that the car will need some basic things to get ready for its road trip- oil change, coolant flush, new battery, new tires. Anything else I should be thinking about before my 1000 mile drive?

On a 6yr old car that has been stored in an underground parking garage, I would change it all before driving it 1000 miles. May need the gas tank flushed as well. 6 yr old gas can cause issues, especially if it has any ethanol in it. Once you get it home, I would then promptly change the fuel filter.

It has super low miles, but long term storage requires maintenance as well, and many items require change at mileage or time intervals.

Good point on the gas, I forgot to mention that in my plans. I will have the stealership do all fluids...and a detail....

I asked them to take detailed pictures of the car before they actually tow it....I am really interested to see what it looks like....I wish I could go out and rescue it myself, but with my work schedule its just not in the cards. Plus the added expense is not necessary.

I did look it up on the registry list, and everything checks out. I bought the car from the first owner, and would love to share the back story-

The car was purchased in late 2007 by a serious Audi enthusiast for his son. Since I have known him he has had an A8L, 2 R8 Spyders, and also just got an SQ5. So no judgments for the neglected RS4 :-). He drove the car for about three years and put the 16k on it, but moved to New York City and did not want to take the car because of the cost to store, and he did not know how long he would be out there. So the car sat for the last 6 years waiting and he has stayed in NYC.

I have known about the car since it was originally purchased, and never gave much thought about the car until 3 years ago when I found out it had been sitting for 3 years. Ever since then, I have offered to buy the car, and nothing had come of it. I ran into my friend a few weeks ago, and asked the question, but received a different response this time! We have been emailing back and forth for about 2 weeks, and I made an offer on the car that he accepted.

This is my 4th Audi, 3rd 4.2 V8, but 1st RS.....I am pretty excited to pick her up in a few weeks. I will post pics as soon as I see some....

Congrats on the car man!! Given his garage list and Living in NYC it makes sense not wanting it here! Such a tough place to have a nice car. When I moved here it took a few years to figure out logistics to keep my baby safe from the crazys here! Looks like you have a good plan of action to get your new Imola running at 100% again.
