Steve i was in the same boat as you a while back. Went to school for about 2 yrs, didnt know what i wanted to do, didnt seem like it was going anywhere. I took a few yrs off, I took classess but it was like a few classes here and there. I started workign full time etc, then realized damn I better get my ass back in school and get a degree. Yea there are lots of people out there who have very very comfy jobs without a degree, but you better be damn good at what you do, be at the right place at the right time and have luck on your side, but for the rest of us a degree wouldnt hurt. For the most part I found out that just get a degree, doesnt really matter degree in what just any degree will help. Now Im doing it the hard way, working 40+hrs a week, school full time and try to squeeze in whats left of my day for sleep. Only thing I have going is that my job allows me to study and do HW. Just grin and bear it man, I have about 4 semesters left and Im looking to finish it ASAP.

I did my BA in MIS in 4 years. I did not like classes, and just put up with it... basically coasted through school. It was worth it in the end, because I really like working and got a better job than I would have without the degree.

BA is CIS, took 5 years because while in school I worked 40hrs a week. (Working on my Masters now). Like Ted said pretty much any degree will do; employers like to see that you stuck with something and finished it (like school). Without my degree though, I wouldn't have landed the job I have now which is at a University, pays unbelievably and is so secure.

So far, I only have an associates degree, but even then I noticed more attention from employers at careerbuilder.com and monster.com. I can't imagine what a 4 year degree will do.

Yeah, I have over 100+ credits under my name... All from the Air Force training though that actually counts towards my degree... Now I just need to take the mandatory classes and I will be done!! My degree is in Aerospace Technologies or some crap...

BA English from Univeristy of Michigan.. took me 4 years and 1 summer class.

I haven't gotten a job with my degree because I haven't tried to get one. I'm at my old job (was an intern here for 2 years) until I find something that interests me.

When I graduated I was soooooo sick of school and pretty ambivalent about it. However, now that I'm looking at jobs, I'm wanting to go back. Everything that interests me really requires an advanced degree. So, just this week I started thinking about doing the fulltime 40hour a week work thing and starting towards my MBA w/ Marketing concentration. Work & night classes.. I should be able to handle that.

I've never seen school as being 'optional'... even if I didn't want to be there.

I have a friend who has been extremely successful in the business world. Been in executive positions with a couple very popular companies. He told me that he doesnt really care what a persons degree is in as long as they have one. It tells him that the person is able to commit to a plan of action and stick to it. Being able to follow through on a plan that takes 4 years of work and effort tells a lot about a person. Stick with it and people and companies will respect you more for having worked for something that took 4 years to accomplish.

i have a BA in finance with a minor in economics. took me about 5.5 years... i dropped many classes becuse i didnt like the teachers and transfered schools and then went back to the origional one. i got an entry level job with Morgan Stanley advising idiot brokers and even dumber clients, but will try to move to an analyst position in a year. i didnt get the job i wanted, but i'm on the right track.

arizona steve, if youre already in school just stay in there and finish. employers would rather see that you have actually completed some education than none.

as for jobs, unless youre degree is something technical see: real sciences not liberal arts, then your degree is just padding on your resume. having a degree shows your prospective employer that you've committed to something and finished it... and that you can actually read, write and to some extent, think.

B.S. in Kinesiology and I don't use it at all. I really think college is good to help shape who you are going to become, and still provides you the discipline and capacity to think critically, but since I work in the film and TV industry, the Kinesiology degree itself is pretty useless to me.

Stay in school if only for the parties and hawt chicks. I was near my old alma mater yesterday and saw a ddg blond just walkin to the bustop (I spent all but 2 seconds near campus). Believe me, the opportunities that college brings on a daily basis are unrivalled anywhere else. Hell I am trying to come up with a way to get my old ass back on campus.

oh yeah and back to your question, I have my degrees in psychology, been working within my field since leaving college and have opened up my own practice since.

BTW, hawtest girls are psych majors, fyi.

5 yr degree in architecture that took me 6. hardest thing I've ever done and yes being broke really sucks. stay in school, its worth it - its a life mod. I've been out for 3yrs now and I'm almost licensed - second hardest thing. its been a lot of hard work but its def. paying off for me. I believe that no matter what you like doing there a way to be sucessful at it (make $$$) but it takes a lot of work (ie. skateboarding, surfing, driving, whatever) so find something that you love to do and work at it...and go to school if you can its an entrance fee thats worth it.

Here is reality. Most major employers will not hire you without a degree. It does not matter if it is History, Polysci, or Basket Weaving. The just want the document.

If you are going to work for yourself or start out in a small company it does not really matter. You will learn a lot in school. You may not use it everyday, but there is knowledge to be had.

graduating in may with a BFA in film production, then going to graduate law school at either chapman university (where im getting my BFA), USD, or USC. sooo.. i think school is pretty useful in getting to where you want to go, because i sure as hell know what i want to do isnt possible without going to school. :)

I have a degree, was an insane 5 years but well worth it. Nice looking at that peice of paper and knowing I graduated from a top ranked school in one of the sought after programs. In the technology field you won't get hired to any reasonable position without a degree these days.

that is unless you are specialized like a physician or engineer.

To me it matters what industry you plan on working in a degree matters. There are plenty of people that worked hard in corporate america that dont have a degree

im in college. ive gotten a whole 4 credits...

it took me about 17 minutes. i tested out of college algebra.

that is all... look for me to do big things in the future.
