APR tune for recently purchased A3?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hey guys I just recently bought myself a preowned 2015 A3. A buddy of mine bought an S3 at the same time and he has since gotten the APR stage 1 tune done and has been telling me that I should get one also. I've looked up about it and it seems for the most part everyone that has gotten it done is pretty happy with it but I figured I'd post something on here and get some feedback. It came with the original warranty plus the certified preowned stuff and only has 7200 miles and I know from reading about it that doing the APR tune will void the warranty so I've been kind of on the fence about going ahead with it. Thanks for the input!

Not sure on the newer models but once you upgrade you can flash back to stock so they can't see ot

I would check into the "flashback" stories to make sure it can be flashed back with no history alerting AoA it was done. Working on cars is not like it once was. Nowadays it is all about expensive electronics and I would be careful about placing your certified warranty in jeopardy.

Audi has the ability to verify if the vehicle has been tuned including those piggy-back modules - even if flashed back.
Once caught you will be flagged with a TD1 and your warranty will be voided (in most cases). When dealing with aftermarket tunes, you will need to pay to play.
Simply search on "TD1" or read here - http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...ood-TD1-issues

Yes, regardless of TD1 argument (many succeed in flashing back to stock), one must be prepared to pay in the case of a relevant failure- by tuning, you assume the risk. I think OP has accepted this and is asking if it's worth it.

I'll let others speak to the reliability of the A3 as I'm not an owner, although I think they've been pretty solid from the reading I've done.

Yeah I was just curious if anyone has heard whether people think its worth doing or not. I would like the added power but it's not exactly something that I can't live without. I've found that my A3 definitely has a solid amount of power for its size.

I have a S3 with the APR Stage 1 tune and can't recommend it enough, very impressive. Yes, it voids the warranty, but Audi has to prove the mod caused the issue. Of course
that could get messy, but as someone already said, you have to pay to play. Before getting the tune I talked to APR, 3-4 APR dealers, one Audi and one VW (S3=Golf R)
dealer who are APR tuners and specifically asked about long term durability and risks of the tune. None had any concerns...there is now a stage 3 tune available so the S1 is just tapping
the potential. Sure the APR dealers could be telling me what I want to hear, but after hearing the same opinion from the Audi and VW dealers, I went for it and am extremely happy with the tune!

I would go talk with your dealer. Up until recently, there were two dealers her that sold APR. Let them know that you're not looking to go crazy, but that you're looking for a little more and they may just work with you. We have two RS7 Stage II's out and one in particular went back to the dealer the day after we put the downpipes and Stage II software in. I was horrified when I heard, but they loved it and he had a crowd combing over what we did.

We have had several customers install the APR software that are still under factory and CPO warranty. Before they take the vehicle in for service we flash it back to stock and we have not had an issue yet with a vehicle going TD1. If you would like to talk more or have any other questions please let us know.

I just installed APR Stage 1 ECU and TCU software on my 2016 MK7 GTI with only 1100 miles on the clock. It's definitely a huge transformation. I am really impressed with how well it performs in this 100* heat we have right now as well. Not to mention I have to use crappy California 91 octane!

    I would highly recommend it.
