Is 9 lbs. alot for a laptop?

I am thinking about getting the HP zd8000 series laptop, because i heard good rating about it. And it is pretty cheap. What do you think?
And is it capable of getting high def. ?
I read in the Specs about the display and it says nothing about it, but on the main page it says it is.

Very nice. My mother has that same laptop but fully-loaded for her buisness/personal use. She loves it and the weight of it isn't an issue for her at all, but it is a BIG laptop. With the 17" wide screen monitor it really isn't possible for it to be very small though... Granted it's size isn't bad enough where it really becomes a hassle.
Even my dishwasher is made by Bosch.
I have Vag-Com and am happy to help... PM me for more info.

It depends what you want it for. If you need lots of portablily & have to lug that around on top of a bunch of books on a daily basis, you might want to go a little lighter. If you are just planning to use it around your house & take it out once in a while, then the weight shuoldn't be a factor.

For me it's worth hauling around my heavy laptop to have a 17" screen & a base that is spread out enough so it doesn't overheat & scorch my legs.

If your going to be carrying it around with you a lot, I would not get the 17in screen. Not because of the weight, but its just a big computer. If it's going to be sitting on a desk most of the time, I would get it. My friend has that same one and she loves it, but 90% of the time, it doesnt move.

7.7lbs is the average weight for 17" laptops...It's screen is hi-def but you'll only get the benefits of it if you get Windows Media Center on it.

That makes no sense? Why would you have to run win MCE crap on it to get the benefit of a the nice screen?

Because MC makes use of the harware, XP doesn't (yet). Although, MC 2005 runs very good.

Generally, people who buy 17" notebooks are replacing their desktops.

If you do carry it around, make sure you turn that sucker off or you can seriously damage your HD like me.

?? you mean there are no drivers for XP to run 1680x1050 resolution? That seems odd.

No, I mean XP won't natively support Hi-Def TV/Movies, but MC will.

9lbs is absurdly heavy. I'm also opposed to the 17" screen though... so might not want to listen to me. My mom just got a 17" screen laptop since she's moving to China and can't take the desktop. The thing is HUUUGE. You can't even sit it on your lap. If you ever want to be mobile with it, I think its waay to big and heavy.

Mine is 4.2lbs and 12.1" screen so I guess I'm the wrong person to listen to..

As long as you have a desktop then I would buy a very light laptop +- 5 pounds or so.
