How many miles is too much for purchase??

I currently have a 2007 A4 CVT w/ no major mods as my daily driver at 91k miles and I'm looking to replace it with a 2008 A4 6sp (Avant Preferably) but looking in the classified sections, the high mileage somewhat scares me off. I'm not a heavy driver as I bought mine w/ 54k miles in Nov of 2012... And I just hit 91k so cars with 110k plus, is it really worth the investment?

Nothing is too much if it has been maintained and looked after properly.

Agreed - at this point, you have the same amount of waranty on a car with 35k as you do with a car with 135k. Just look to see that it has been taken care of (really make sure, because there are some lemons out there) and you should be good.

I know there are a few member that are >200k on their cars.

I probably wouldn't buy anything with more than 200k unless it was immaculate.

My 06 has 110,000 on it right now, and it's perfect. My last B5 I sold at 222,000, and the one before that I sold at 271,000.

If that car has been maintained, I'd say it's middle-aged at 110,000 miles....depending on if you do your own work. If you're paying $500-1,000 every time you go to the shop, buy a late model Civic.

I bought my car with 150k on it for 3500. If I get another 60k on it and about 5 years id be thrilled.

got mine (2.0t Quattro avant 6spd, no sunroof) with around 175k on it and a 2-3" stack of receipts from Audi dealerships and 2Bennett, recently turned 200k and will likely run it to 300k before replacing. If you take care of the maintenance and address any mechanical needs in a timely fashion there's no reason it shouldn't run for a long time.

Most of the longevity story has to do with oil change frequency...There's horror stories about Audi's long-life oil service program and the premature failures caused notably stuff like cam chains and associated components, loss of compression.I change at 7k (kms) ,yep that's frequent but my Saab 9/5 has done nearly 400k now, head never removed, original turbo,no wear issues.Wolfgang is as tight as a drum so far.I rest my case.

Anywhere near 100k on an average maintained car.... I would recommend a cam chain/tensioner/adjuster replacement, along with the vacuum pump if the car you purchase doesn't have the latest revision. This along with regular timing belt and cam follower replacements should help the 2.0t last for much longer than 200k. Chris@fifteen52 has 252k on his avant and has no plans to replace it, last I heard.

It SHOULD last to 200-225K no problem. EXCEPT these are tempermental German machines that can blow for any reason, at any time--as any honest Audi owner will tell you. Ive got 125K and have no real issues save for some sensors and coilpacks. I have some over maintenance to do--coils, motor mounts, suspension bushings /control arms.
Just hope if its an Automatic that it holds --although it looks like the ZF units have been fairly robust with only a few having issues with their torque converters. Beyond that the weak point is the cam adjuster and chain and oil pump area. If those hold, youre golden--if not youre broken.

I took my motor apart to build it at 150k and it had perfect compression(210 in every cylinder) and looked new, maintenance is key.
