    Tire guru's please chime in

I have been riding on some worn toyo proxy t1 sports. I got an industrial staple in them saturday so used that as my opportunity to get some new tires. The only one they could get in my size (255/35/20) before Wednesday were nitto g2s. Now the car feels a bit "floaty" on the interstate. Like I'm constantly having to input the steering wheel to stay straight. My concern is that the sidewall might be too weak. Will these possibly "break in" and start to feel more stable? Or are these tires just no good for my car?

Any opinions here? I may take my car back and let them know as these were one of the recommended choices and they did say if I have any problems they'll take care of me.

    TIA

According to the Nitto site, it's 255/35ZR20 97W XL. But you're moving from worn Toyo's to a tire that starts out with a tread depth of 11/32", so you may be sensing some squirm from that. Toyo apparently doesn't make a 255/35-20 anymore, but you can get that size in the top-rated Michelin Pilot Super Sport. Here's info on it at the Tire Rack site.

So I guess the question is, is this a sub par tire?

May not be sub par, but sometimes you get what you pay for. The PSS in that size are $278 per tire at the Tire Rack. What did the Nittos cost you (not including mounting and balancing)?

not really, just a different tire. People on this forum throat michelin's dick like crazy, and they are pretty good tires, but your nittos are not as horrendous as people will make them sound.

a worn tire will not have as much tried, and less squish, a new tire will have more tread, and hence, more squish, that is what you are feeling.

As has been stated, new tires will have a little more give until they start to wear in a bit. If you're looking for something with a stiffer sidewall, take a look at the Vredestein Ultrac Vorti. Those just went on my S4 and I've been quite impressed thus far. I was also very happy with the Ultrac Sessantas that I had a couple years ago. Last summer I swapped those for Toyo T1's and they were good, but the Vredesteins felt a bit better in my opinion.

How do the Vorti compare to the Sessantas? I had the Sessantas on my B5 and loved them.

People do ride the PSS in this forum a bit too hard. Are they a excellent tire? HELL YES, but does that mean if you go a step down you won't be satisfied or that is the ONLY option? There are some solid bang for buck tires like the Hanook V12 EVO 2 which are pretty popular on here. Plus not everyone here drives there S4 into corners like a episode of top gear lol. Sears had a pretty dang good deal on the PSS. They were $213 a tire for 255/35/19 & i had a 10% Sears coupon that worked on anything over $399 or more BUT did not work with Michelin PSS sadly. The Hanook v12 EVO's were on sale for a INSANE $160 a tire AND that 10% worked on my total purchase which was unreal. I bought my car with Michelin Pilot sport A/S-3 high performance all seasons. So i assume either the PSS or the V12's will be a great improvement for summer.

Sears sale was something like this. I saved almost $300 going with the Hanook V12 which from what i hear are a awesome tire for the money. That spare $300 will pay for other mods and goodies. I was going to go PSS but i would have been silly to turn down almost a $300 savings. Got to look out for those deals! Sears is up the street from me so that is free store pickup no shipping.

    -PSS $852
    -Hanook Ventus V12 evo $640-10% coupon= $576

I've only driven about 300 miles on the Vortis, but they seem to be a little stiffer than the Sessantas. I really cant give a great comparison at the moment because a good deal of the driving time I have on them thus far has been in wet conditions or dry highway driving. They seem to track true and definitely grip well in the wet though. Can't really say how they handle the twisties yet.
