Has anyone tried these black roof cross bars? They're eBay item 282028159710. I couldn't find any other blacks bars to match the black roof rails.

There are a few of us with the black Thule crossbars. Check out the pics in @Jimminez build thread: Jimminez SQ5 - reintroduction

I ordered through Cracks & Racks and they matched REI sale pricing for me with free shipping and no tax out-of-state.

I'll probably buy some used bars and have a friend of mine refinish them. He owns a powder coating business, but does anodizing too.

I highly recommend the Thule Aeroblade Edge system. They aren't the least expensive alternative but provide the most adjustability compared to other bars, though that may not be important to you. Some have complained about not having hatch clearance with the OEM bars and bike trays. I never installed a bike tray, just the box and didn't have issues.

Here is an example of how the OEM bars site compared to the Thule bars when positioned forward.

They're also noticeably quieter as far as wind noise goes.

The only negative for me is that I can't open my sunroof all the way when I have the bike trays on. The rear attachments on my trays extend pretty far below the bars, so my sunroof hits them. They just barely cleared with the OEM bars, and the Thule bars are lower profile.

True. I won't have the sunroof open with the box on so it doesn't make a difference for me. But need to have a way to disconnect it opening so no one tries.

I found a new set on OEM bars with the key for $125 shipped. I'll probably have my friend powder coat them black or titanium to match the peelers on the my vehicle. I have a road bike, but plan on adding a rack on the back. I'll only use the carriers for kayaks.

If you figure out a way to disconnect or limit how far it opens, please share. Mops said there's a sensor that should stop the pano, but I'm afraid to test that out!

I haven't looked in to it but will pass the info on if I do.

My bars are not black, but very happy with my whispbar setup. With just the cross bars much quieter than OEM. A coworker for mine told me the whispbar is quieter than the aerobar. He had both setups to compare. I can open the sunroof without any issues even with my box and bike rack on. Not the cheapest options, but in my opinion very well made.

Drove from SF to LA and back on I5 cruising around 85 and had very minimal increase in sound from the roof box and bars. I've been in other cars where it sounded like a crazy howl and the care shook like it was about to fall apart at high speeds.

My only complaint is that it sits about OEM crossbar height so the box isn't "hugging" the Q as tightly as i hoped it would.

Barry thanks for the idea, might anodize my setup to get them black.

Nicely done Phresh. I sanded, primed, and painted the Oem bars black. Used good 'Ol rattle cans and the finish has held up very well for about 20$
