New to the 2.7T - Oil Leak

    Thanks in advance!

I have an oil leak on my just acquired 03 allroad 2.7T 6MT. I've done some searching on oil leaks, but have yet to read anything definitive (sounds like it's hard to call leak definitive on this engine without pulling it).

I haven't been able to get the car up on a lift or ramps, but on Level 4, I took a few pics. Oil only seems to drip from the car after I turn it off, which is actually how I found it in the first place. I've been other places idling with the car on and haven't seen a leak, but less than a minute after I park, it's drip drip drip for a little bit. Eventually it then stops. The oil I could see is on the pan and the (I think) A/C lines running behind the pan. Would this be cam seals, valve cover (I was told those were replaced shortly before I purchased), half moons, or oil pan seal?

Also, what is that stud randomly sticking out between the two lines?

You are missing a clamp on the stud which holds the 2 trans cooler lines. As for the oil leak it appears to me to be coming from the lower pan.
Old enough to know better but young enough not to listen...

With this much oil it could be from anywhere. Could be cam seals, valve covers, oil pan, oil filter housing. You will need to clean it all up and then find the leak.

Thanks! I'd grab it from the local U-Pull-It yard, but the sole 2.7 is laying flat on the ground. I'll try to clean it up a bit more to clear up.

Alright. I'll see what I can do early in the morning. Probably not going to be able to get good pics at all though. But I shall try.

Realized I never followed up. Oil leak was from a hole punched in the upper oil pan. Appeared to be punched by a pry bar in an attempt to get the serpentine belt on the alternator, rather than using the proper tool on the tensioner.
