I know this setup well and can advise if you have a specific issue. I agree with smac, asking for everything and how to do it all step by step, I mean, is that fair? :)

Appreciate your willingness. Everything is installed "accordingly " just seems like I missed something and I'm going over everything to see this through. I'm currently seeking help in anyway so that I can successfully troubleshoot and correct the issue.
I already have all the schematics (thanks smac )and will soon make a post with pictures and info. and hopefully someone can share a light.

If you are assuming something is off, I assume it's because you have done a full VCDS autoscan and you have DTCs present. Post the complete autoscan.

Don't know what you did wrong with that copy/paste, but damn. That's a mess to try and read.

See if you can edit the post and clean up all the missing carriage returns. Did you copy it right out of the program window? Don't do that. Save the log (do not Print) to a file and then open the file and copy/paste the log text from that.

I'm currently working with the drivers door and verifying all wires are connected according to the Audi wiring diagram No. 121/4 .
And I noticed that the gray/blue wire that goes from E530 (button) to the T27a (door body connector) is missing at the inside part connector (slot #10). At the door side of connector T27a it has it correctly, but at the inside cabin side it's missing . And there's no other wire (gray/blue) in any other slot neither.
According to wiring diagram No. 121/4, it's states that wire comes from :

    1) B490 - connection 26 at the "main wiring harness.
**** What harness is this ?

    2) And then goes to T32b / slot #17 connector that's from J519 ( vehicle electrical system control module)
**** Which module is this, and where's is it located ? Is this the BCM1 thats located under dash around the steering column ?

    3) what are the numbers on the end of the wires inside a box mean ? : 23, 22, 9, 8

section 121 is for the rearview mirror for B8.5 A4. lane change assist for B8.5 A4 is section 126. I assume you mean section 126. 126/4 does have the E530 shown on it.

B490 is going to be the term 58 distribution circuit. J519 to a gray/blue wire to most all the interior controls backlighting elements. As you see in the diagram, it lights up an LED, connected to ground on the other side of the LED. The pin 2 is the controlled light for LCA on/off in response to the button being pushed, and pin 6 is the sense line for if the button is being pressed. But that backlighting LED is all that wire powers.

There's probably not even a wire to the body side connector for T27a on pin 10. It wasn't a factory installed feature, so there's no reason to assume the supporting wiring is there anywhere in the car. You'd have to check if you measure voltage on pin 10 on the body side connector when you have the dash lighting on (headlights on). Regardless, the J519 doesn't know or care about what all is connected to the term 58 line. So unconnected, there's not going to be any error. Unless you shorted the circuit directly to ground and the J519 is blowing a fuse. The connections that matter for the actual LCA operation are the ones on 2/3 and 6/4.

If you do want to run the term 58 to pin 10, you're going to need to find something else in the area that has term 58 running to it, and splice onto that. Given the door's location to the J519, probably easiest to just splice onto that wire directly off the J519. It looks like a lot of stuff doesn't actually run off direct voltage control like term 58 anymore. Such as the E1 headlamp switch, which takes commands for dimming via its LIN bus to the J519.

Don't know what fault you're working. Still waiting for a clean autoscan log post.

On the numbers in boxes, that means "this wire continues in column X". So take the yellow wire from plug T6w pin2, it's in column 37 (the numbers across the bottom of the page). It goes to plug T27a pin 9 and then comes out the body side as a yellow/blue wire > [8] > so we go to column 8, two pages earlier, and we see it continues there to plug T16v pin 2 (this is the main harness to rear bumper harness connection), passing through to plug T12h pin 3, which plugs into the J796 radar unit on the rear bumper cover.

Thanks for all that. I'll connect everything back hopefully today and rescan it again since I saved it as a pdf. file previously.

So I rechecked the connections at driver door and found some wires not connected according to Audi diagram. So once I fixed this I cleared codes and did an output test on VCDS.
Both mirror Led lamps now turn ON.
The button works fine (on and off) and no "error message" on the screen cluster like before.
I'm also able to adjust the brightness level on the MMI.
Seems like everything is working (I hope so)

    Question:
    1) is there any additional coding I need to do ?

    2) is there anyway I can test its working without driving it and see if the lamp lights up?
I just don't want to install back the door panel and then take it back off

Can't say for sure; my car came with it. But there is the calibration basic setting you probably need to do. But it requires some special equipment.

    https://forums.ross-tech.com/index.php?threads/16593/

Mine is broken (no loss to me, I never used it anyway), so can't go looking at any measuring blocks for you.

    Everything is working
Just tested it out on the highway and it's working perfectly.

Only thing I noticed was when you hit the turn signal when it's flashing , it starts flashing rapidly (car alert) but no "beep" like other cars I have do. Is this normal or should it make an audio alert additionally of the rapid flashing?

I can't recall, does it use the parking aid alarm (APS) for the audiable warning or is there no warning? Smac?

No, the side assist only uses the radars, not the ultrasonics. As for beeping, since I never turned it on, I can't recall. But I don't believe there's a reason for any audible since you're suppose to be looking at your mirror and use the visual for confirmation of where your mirror doesn't let you see. Not just changing lanes without any looking at all.

Right, I was only referring to the integration to the buzzer speaker. I'm not finding anything in the docs that indicates it though, so you're prolly right, it's just a visual indicator.

    Looks like it's visual only:
If the Audi side assist recognizes a critical situation in one of the two lanes, and no imminent lane change is indicated, the driver is informed of this situation through illumination of the warning lamp in the relevant exterior mirror. If an intended change of lane is indicated through actuation of a turn signal and the adjacent lane is occupied, the driver is warned by the warning lamp flashing on and off four times.

lane keep assist is done via the steering wheel shake, using the motor in the specific 4-spoke wheel in B8.0 and using the electric steering rack in B8.5. I don't think lane keep assist was ever offered on US B8 vehicles (only on the D4 A8), so it's probably not referenced in the US owner's manuals. But ALA is completely detailed in SSP 398 (or 911703 for the AoA version).

I'm in the middle of this retrofit on my '11 Avant. It's going slowly since I'm doing power folding mirrors simultaneously and I need to paint them, but I've made all of the harnesses and have all of the components.

One thing that bugs me is the lack of an audio blind spot cue. My wife's Nissan does this and it's a great feature, so I'm baffled that Audi didn't incorporate it.

So of course I've been brainstorming ways to make it do that. My first thought was piezo beepers, and my second thought was the exact "buzzers" from the parking aid alarms, which have a nice refined "beep" that fits the car well. I have a spare one for my front PDC retrofit, and unfortunately discovered through testing that they're not actually "buzzers" at all; they're speakers! The Central Electric module must have an audio file of the "beep" stored, and sends an audio signal to the speakers, instead of just voltage to a buzzer. Damn!

So right now I've got two ideas, a v1 and a v2. I'm starting with the v1 and we'll see how it goes. I'll keep you all updated, but right now the plan is:

V1: Install two 2500hz piezo beepers somewhere in the doors. If there's room in the tweeter sail I'll stuff them in there and fix them with putty of some sort; they're quite small. The desired functionality is to only activate when the radar detects another vehicle AND the same-side turn signal is activated. To achieve this, I plan to power the piezo beepers from the same line as the warning lamps (only active when vehicle in the blind spot) through an NO solid-state relay on the external mirror turn signal line (only active when turn signal is on). In an ideal world, the rapid 4x flashing of the lane assist lamp will cause the piezo to beep four times, pause, beep four times, pause, etc.

The power draw of the beepers is quite low, but I do worry that it will interfere with the radar circuit. Time will tell. A small solid state relay should prevent the relay coil from drawing enough milliamps to interfere with the turn signal LEDs.

Problems with this setup: Potential power draw issues, and potential timing issues. Since the turn signal and the lane assist lamp signal come from totally different sources, they'll have different phases; it's possible the "blinks" of the lane assist lamp (which sends load through the NO relay) will come when the blinker is between strokes, and as they phase the beepers will go in and out irregularly. A time-latched relay could solve this, but they're expensive. I'm also not convinced by the piezo beeper sounds - they're very unrefined, doesn't really fit the car. So, depending on how V1 works:

V2: Arduino-controlled MP3 device feeding a recording of the PDC "beep" to a pair of extra PDC speakers hidden in the doors. Run the 12V for the turn signal lamps and the lane assist lamps through Arduino inputs. Arduino programmed with two conditions: if turn signal on, latch on for duration of one turn signal cycle (eliminating phasing issues), AND if lane assist lamp on, play sound. Cons: I suck at Arduino.

Is this all a huge amount of work just to get the car to beep at me?

    Yes. Yes it is.

Update: I mocked up v1 on my kitchen counter, and while it did work, the buzzers I found were horrendously artificial sounding.

v2 it is. Current plan is an Arduino Uno R3 in the knee bolster, running a DSPlayer shield with the only inputs being parallel splices into the L/R 12V wires for the side assist lamps. Arduino coding based on pulse width; if pulse is "long," there is an object in the blind spot but the turn signal is not on. If the pulse is "short" (~.125s), the side assist lamp is flashing in "alarm" mode. Arduino outs to additional L and R Parking Aid speakers in the door cards. "If 12V pulse 'short,' play sound on the respective side."

for anyone who's completed this retrofit, where did you run the wiring? I have just about all the parts assembled, just trying to plan the install

I'm not done with this yet (still waiting on a successful BCM2 swap) but I've run all the wires. They go from the rear bumper through the grommet to the right rear cavity where the fuses live. From there inside the trunk trim and under the right side seat trim, then behind the lower trim along the right floor. Some plug into the right-side door connector from there. Then continue to the J519 module in the driver's knee bolster. The last of them go in the left door connector - you can go from the knee bolster through the small vertical side trim piece, you don't need to remove the left side floor trim. I took out the side seat trim, the right floor trim, the glove box, and the driver bolster and that was enough. I could pull it through the remaining trim pieces. You'll also need the door cards off to do the mirrors.

    easy enough, thanks!

re: mirrors, if I've understood correctly, the B8.5 w/smart key should be pre-wired for the SA indicators at the mirrors, right? So only need to remove the driver door card to wire in the SA button and install the trim piece. not even sure I saw any separate wiring for those in the Ali harness I got

In other news, I'm now on v4 of my "add audio cues to side assist" project. v3 used optocouplers to sense the power voltage going to the mirror turn signals. It worked on a bench top, but it would mean running a bunch more wires out the door to get the mirror signal, through an optocoupler to feed the Arduino, then back in the door to send audio to the mini speakers for the audio.

v4 instead adds a listen-only CAN module to the Arduino, on the same CAN bus as the J386 door controller. The mirror turn signals get voltage from the J386, but the J386 triggers them via CAN. So now I'm just teaching myself CAN signaling protocols which aren't complicated at all hooboy. On the plus side, having the CAN module for the Arduino means I can do whatever other batshit ideas I come up with. Wheee.

Haven't decided yet whether to splice into the CAN wires or use a contactless solution like this just because it's cool:

I made my own harness so I can't speak to how the Aliexpress harness did it. I also replaced my entire mirror assemblies with folding mirrors at the same time so I'm not 100% sure, but I *think* I remember reading somewhere else that the wiring for the SA lamps is already there, just not connected.

since the only copy of this I could find was a blurry low-res mess, I cleaned it up in Photoshop. hopefully someone finds it useful

Matt, I dunno if you're done with this yet, but if not, I found the walkthrough I used when I did it. It's awesome.

I did use his zip tie trick and can confirm it helped a lot.
