Hi, anybody ever try to install a sunroof on a non so roof cat, is it possible or feasible?
I've found a black interior and sunroof for a steal but I'm not sure if it's worth the work or if it would even work. Any info is much appreciated
    Cheers

I will go with No. The only way I see this being remotely possible is cutting the hole for the sunroof exactly the way the factory did it or to remove the skin off of the old car and install it on yours.

I've seen it done on a mk4. Guy cut up a 337 and put a sunroof in it. Looked Oem when it was done, but it just seems completely sketchy.

Cutting the hole isn't the problem. How the system is hung on the roof and if the roof is phisicaly different between sunroof and normal cars concerns me

At least in Australia, you would also need an engineering certificate after completion. You may want to check that out too as you don't want to invalidate your insurance.

yea that's true Okey, turrets (roofs) are routinely cut and shut-welded at the center of the pillars and now need a certificate,in my day engineers never had any work lol

It's an original audi sunroof and that's not specified in the car docs so it wouldn't be a problem.

Anyone have a picture of the roof without the headliner on? 10x

I'm thinking that you need to be totally convinced that you actually need a sunroof for all the work involved.I have owned 4 cars (2 presently ) with s/r's and never used any of them-even occasionally,Wofies sunroof came in an option package with the HID's and cost the previous owner ~$A3k IIRC

370 Euros for the black interior plus SR. Of course the headliner is for a SR car so it's either this or no deal....The metal work I'll probably do myself as no shop wants to
take it. That's why I asked for some pics, so I know exactly how much work it is.

the easiest way would be to buy a car with a sun roof, but it must be expensive where your from.

The only other way i know of is to cut the top and weld in a roof with a sunroof. You can probably cut and modify a roof in, but that does bring a risk of leaks and rattle.

No, don't do it...It will leak either immediately or some time later...

FYI European B7s didn't come with sunroofs

You do realize there's a reason "no shop wants to take it", right? Either way, I'm in for results and/or catastrophic failure.

No shop will take it as they will be responsible for fixing it afterwards when it leaks..

You also have to take into consideration that it may alter the integrity of the roof of the car possibly including unwanted flexing. The roofs are usually designed differently to incorporate sunroofs since they have cross-beams in place.

More than likely, you're going to end up with a lot of problems after it's done.

Easiest way is to get a roof panel with sunroof and cut out yours and weld in the new roof panel.

I have a friend who put a SR in her car, the Mercedes auto house did it for her, not a big deal, although I know those guys, they're wizards when it comes to
    tin work.
I think I'll hunt a scrap car with a SR and salvage it from there; I also need some stuff that doesn't come on the internet and it isn't easy to do

Gee,you are on a mission and sound convinced that you really want that-its probably one of the most difficult mods PPL might do to their cars IMO-not trying to talk you out of it but I wouldn't even consider it,its a can of worms....
