    Front brake day!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Installing ECS two piece rotors and akebono pads tomorrow. Reviewed the post with step by step instructions on doing the front brakes several times and have all torque specs. I have a bendpak scissor lift so i will be skipping the jack and stands part of the process. First step was getting the car centered over the lift, which i discovered was to low even at stock height. So, i put my race ramps down, the ones i use for my crx, and got the car centered over the lift. First thing tomorrow i will do the brakes, i will take a few pics of the car on the lift if anyone is interested. It is rated at 6000lbs so it should have no trouble lifting the 3900lb S4.

Wish me luck! Ill post the results tomorrow!

Good luck. Be careful with the scissor lift, it's not reliable at all even your car's weight is well under its rated weight. Someone in this forum reported her husband (or bf) broke his arm due to the failure of the scissor lift that comes with the car during a wheel change.

That and I don't think that "widow maker" is rated for 6K lbs either lol. I would never use that thing ever. I think the first thing when you buy the car is to throw that out. I would either be calling roadside or calling a life line to come get me and go home and get my jack.

Yea lowered cars can be a PITA with lifts sometime. That's why you need air lift. Just air it up to allroad status and your good lol.

Let me know how you like the setup. I want to do something with my setup as well. Im getting tired of having to scrub the wheels every wash even with coating on the wheels. What 2 piece rotors did you get?

I could barely get my car over my buddy's scissor lift either. He had race ramps too. My car is lowered though.
Front brakes are easy. You'll have them done quicker than you think.

    Front brake day!

I've used that OEM scissor lift quite a bit. I mean, 15 seconds to lift car, then 2 seconds to put it down onto a jack stand. I wouldn't work on the car with just the scissor lift, but to get it one wheel well into the air works well enough.

I would love to use my expensive low profile jack, but I can't get a jack stand under the pinch weld when you have to jack on the pinch weld, so I'm stuck using the scissor lift. I really wish there was a center and rear jack point on this car.

assuming you are not using the spare tire jack, if you are, you should prolly stop the install.

the caliper carrier bolt, the bolt that attaches the caliper carrier (not caliper) to the wheel assembly is a complete nightmare to loosen, i really ought to re-edit my DIY and say that you should get an impact gun for it.

I'm sure OP is talking about this kind of lift which locks when it's up.

This is what I do as well, not by choice as it's the only option. There's simply not enough room to lift it with my floor jack and then slide in jack stands.

All Done! damn spring on the front of the calipers is a dangerous little b!&&$!!!! Here is a few pics of the car up and brakes done. Went to discount tire paid for VMR 803 19x9.5 et 45 wheels and 265 PSS tires. Those should be here Tuesday or Wednesday, got a $100 visa card on each so an extra $200 in my pocket! Lift is at first lock its the perfect height for sitting in my comfy chair and doing the brakes.

These look super nice. When it's brake time for me, I may consider this route. You're going to want to drop your car next! Btw - no tune yet? We need to meet up one of these days so I can check out those rotors in person!

Thanks it's the best $1800 I had spent in a long time. Makes working on my vehicles a heck of a lot easier.

No tune yet. I have the APR belt and pulley just waiting on tune promo! Heck it's getting so hot I am also watching for cooler upgrade deal as well. APR is doing a change to theirs so curious to see what that is.

It's a Bendpak me-6xp, I actually got it on amazon direct from them. They have fixed pricing so if they have a sale everyone has the same price. On Amazon I got free shipping and had it shipped to my work. This allowed me to use the forklift there and load it on my trailer so I didn't have to pay for curb service.
