Although cats are welded to the dp's you will have to buy a dp specific to wether you have a tip or manual and which engine 1.8T or 3.0..

If 1.8t, I'm pretty sure cats off 2001 B5 would work too, but any prior to that wouldn't. All B5 and B6 cats would fit, but prior to 2001 they were made to meet LEV standards, where from 2001 and on they are under ULEV. Different structure inside.

I would think the B5 cats would not work as they were positioned after the downpipe. The B6 cats are positioned immediately after the turbo and before the downpipe. All years for the B6 1.8T use the same cats. Same goes for all years for the 3.0 B6 cars.

B5 cats are right after the turbo as well.
A local buddy with a B6 1.8T needed a cat for SMOG testing, so he borrowed my B5 stock cat to pass. They're exactly the same fitment.

the B5 1.8T and B6 1.8T cats are located identically (off turbo / before downpipe) and are physically interchangeable, regardless of engine code

Are either of these the case for the V6 models? I know they aren't for the 1.8t
