B 8.5 Hood "Overbite"...seems to be sticking out past bumper

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Thoughts on this? I purchased the car with 3000 miles on it, so I never had anything happen to it, but I wonder if anything was done by the prior owner. Carfax was clean too. I was washing the car today and noticed my hood seems to have a large gap between the bumper, almost like an overbite. I really never noticed this until now, but it seems off. Anyone else notice this, or is it actually normal?? If not, any way to adjust it?

I checked my car, and it looks like your hood needs to close a smidgen more. There is probably a way to adjust it, but I do not know how.

Same with me, but in my 2011. There is a larger gap between the headlight and the hood when its closed on the drivers side. Also, I took the hood insulation off and right in the middle is a unpainted 1x1 ft area. It's too bad I noticed this after a 10+ hour drive back to CO from Texas. Checked carafax and it was clean, but my girlfriend's Dad does body work and noticed wavy ripples on my hood and said that it definitely had some front end repair....I don't think this is normal

You can pull the top of the grille out a little bit. I'll have to look at mine when I get home.

I literally went out and knelt down to look at my hood; my gap is smaller, but still has a little "overbite". There is a chance that something just needs to be adjusted on his car, since the overbite should shrink as the gap closes.

body tolerances on manufacture are vert tight. Panels fit like they should. Looks like some repair was done, a good body shop should be able to adjust the hood. check there two rubber bumpers that can be adjusted to open the over bit a bit. You will see them when you open hood,

Its supposed to have some overbite. I've seen it on several of them. It's hard to tell by your question if that's what you're asking, or if you think the gap between your overbite and your hood is too big.

Does it open and close perfectly?

Thanks for the input so far, appreciate the help. Looking at it more now. Again, I have had the car for 2 years and it doesn't really affect anything, just noticed it today and it started to piss me off!

Friend just sent me 2 pics from a dealership of 2015 and 2016 models, and both do seem to have an overbite too....hmmm....

Yes, it does open and close without any problems. I was asking if the overbite is normal since the rest of the body panels seem to line up perfectly flush, and I noticed the hood seemed to be sticking out a bit....

You could adjust the bumpers on the underside of the hood and see if it comes down some more.

that appears to be a bumper cover adjustment, pop the splash shield/air damn up under the hood on the ends and you'll see two t30 torx.

    Loosen them
Pull the bumper cover out to desired position
    Close hood - Check gap
    Pop hood, tighten Torx

normally this happens after a shop puts the car into service mode for any reason (had it happen twice to me, first for my s/c pulley, then after for my crank pulley). You simply unscrew the torx screws as above and re-adjust the bumper, quick and painless.

on the q5, there are two bumpers on the bottom side of the hood that rests on the frame of the car when the hood is closed. when i had a new grill installed, my hood looked a little crooked - one side was sitting higher than the other. the guy at the body shop told me to just twist clockwise to retract the bumper a bit, and counterclockwise to extend it. if i were to guess, the s4 would have a similar bumper, but i could be wrong. just pop your hood and check.

Just needs a slight adjust as other have said above under the splash panel. Means the bumper has been off it - maybe for belts or anything on front of engine. Nothing to worry about

Oh yeah, it's supposed to have some overbite. It's part of the design. I think it gives it a more menacing look too.

Shame on this forum for making you think something is actually wrong with your car!

Well, thanks for the help....i adjusted the little screws under the splash shield and was able to fix the issue...but now I gotta get one new bumper clip as I snapped the damn thing holding the splash shield on, but worth it...
