I need a bit of help please

I am running out to get a transmission speed sensor this morning. I scoured the net trying to find the exact location of it on my car. I have a 1998 A4 Quattro 2.8. If somebody could take a minute to tell me where it is found on my model I would be so appreciative to them. Replacing this is my first step to resolving several fault code reading my car is sending.

I have an appointment scheduled at a mechanic shop on Friday and I know they will go to this part to replace if I don't do it first. They will want to charge me a lot more. So - I am trying to do the work myself then see how things pan out.

Everybody who reads this - thank you! If you know where this is exactly on my model please help me out

Never mind on helping me with the above. I now realize the poor car is a lot sicker than just needing the speed sensor replaced. The car goes into 'LIMP MODE' so I figure there is a whole litany of problems wrong with it. Going to take it to mechanic and pretty much bend over in the office.

Do 2.8's have a limp mode? I thought that was a turbo-only thing.

Anyway, if you're talking about the crankshaft position sensor, I think the 98 and 99 are the same, so this should help: http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...ensor-Location

If you've got other codes/issues we can try and help

yes - it definitely has limp mode b/c it's limping! LOL

I just pulled all the codes and there are quite a few...

    422 - main catalyst <bank 1> efficiency below thresh
411 - secondary air injection incorrect upstream flow detected
    432 - main catalyst <bank 2> efficiency below thresh
113 - intake air temperature sensor circuit high input
    735 - incorrect 5th gear ratio
    734 - incorrect 4th gear ratio
717 - transmission speed shaft sensor signal intermittent
1300 - random misfire detected on 1 or more cylinders

that's all of them as if that weren't enough. Not good....
