What do you think the B8.5 will go for after the B9 rolls out?

Hi all. I have an A5 right now, but a family member might be buying it off me later on, probably early next year.

I'm in love with the 3.0 supercharged V6 it just sings! I'd love to stay with the 5 body and I love having a coupe, but a 4 door is more practical for me right now.

What do you guys think CPO B8.5's will go for once the B9 S4 rolls out? Rumor has it it will be out sometime later this year.

I'm seeing 2013 models with "peeler" wheels going for $38k with 30k miles.
Lowest I've seen CPO models go for is $36k.

Well im sure you will get just normal depreciation nothing out of the ordinary. But until I see the product that will be released for sale here, I am not a fan of the interior one bit of the B9 S4. Looks dull and stupid to me. Doesn't look like an S interior right now. But If a lot of people don't want the B9 and want the B8.5 that will put a demand on a B8.5 on a case by case basis and you might be able to get a little more than normal. But Its not going to be like a sought after car like the BMW M135. Ill hold judgment until the final product for here is released on their website. But right now Im no fan.

I love the B9 interior EXCEPT for the fact they opted to go with white interior LED's. I really loved the red it was Aud's thing.

Leasing a B9 could be an option, but I don't think the new turbo engine will be as great as this supercharged one.

I hope that the turbos don't feel as laggy to me as the ones in the S3 do. I've grown to love the supercharged life, and driving my friends S3 made me appreciate it more. I noticed that I had to press down hard than usual in normal driving, because the low end torque isn't there.

I love the new navigation/overall UI. I really wish there was a way to modify our MMI systems, like an iPhone jailbreak of some sorts...

OP, FYI, there will be a B9 A5/S5 Sportback for the North American market if you are looking for 4 doors and want to stick with the '5' body then you can have your cake and eat it, too!

I, too, am not a big fan of the B9 interior including that large stuck-on tablet. I'd prefer a lower profile MMI display such as the one in the BMW 3 or 4 series.

I think the 8.5 will go up in value.

B9 S4 and BMW 340 identical cars from 2 manufacturers.

Completely ruined the uniqueness of the car. No DSG and the instant torque of the PD blower.

comparing it to a 4 cylinder? lol

try driving a new s6 instead just to get a different feel for turbos.

I have driven and owned both the B8.5 S4 and now a B9 A4. Its not comparable in the power sense, but the new A4 is very light and nimble, it doesn't feel like it is heavy like the B8.5 always felt to me. I say it is a good evolution on the A4/S4 platform. I will say that the turbo 2.0 in the B9 is a awesome, nice torque and an all around great package.

Back on topic, the B8.5 S4 will not drop much in price, it is going to be quite some time before the B9 S4 is available in the US this should keep prices propped up.

    We won't see a B9 S4 until next year (2017).

I don't like where they have the radio controls (infront of the shifter stupid) I don't like the shift knob same as A4. The ugly thing stuck in the middle left of the dash (screen) that doesn't hide. The Seats are not as sporty as the B8's. They look more like the B6 B7 recaro's which is ok but for me its a step backwards from current B8. To me the interior has a lot to do with the overall likeability of the car since I want to be comfortable in the car while having fun with the power and such. But I'll make my final judgment when the official car is released.

I think the ''purist'' will want the b8.5.. while the power hungry and the one who always want the newst thing.. will go b9. No doubt the B9 will be faster than ours which is limited by the little S/C unit..

I don't see any change. I bought my 30k mile 2013 CPO S4 in October 2015 for $37,000. There were lower and higher but not much price disparity. I think this will remain the norm. Look at the prices of the 2012 S5s. People like what's out now and don't always desire radical change. The B9 is not very impressive. If anything, I'd like to keep the B8.5 body with a nice power upgrade say a bump to 375- 400 hp . People would still complain but a lot would be satisfied.

tbh, I had my car in at the dealership, and the ride pick up was in a B8.5 A4 S-Line. Thought I would check out the B9 while I was waiting for them to finish something I wanted last minute done...I liked the B8.5 more...

I wasn't impressed at all with the B9. It's not even the fact that I own a B8...I honestly felt like the S3 would be a way better fit. With the new RS3 coming out, and potential for a A5 / S5 Sportback, the new B9 A4 really feels like it's ripe for old men and women. The biggest screw up is the entire center dash / console. The rest of the car makes it less of an upgrade minus engine and weight savings. I have a feeling I will be extremely interested in the B9.5 when it comes out.

I guess I am disappointed in the sense the B6 was a meh upgrade from the B5. B7 was a face lift from the B6, more or less. The B8 was a dramatic improvement over the B6/B7. The B8.5 was a welcome facelift, but the B9 is just lacking any real enthusiasm from me. Put it in prospective I am a B5-> B8 driver, with B6/B7 being the lost years of the line-up

Have the lease residuals or discounts changed since the B9 announcement? This may be a good way to project the end value.

I think prices will hold there own. The used cars have been in high demand. I don't think there will be a huge influx of used B8 s4s on the market when the b9 is released. But there will be some. Just remember the B9 S4 will have neither the 6MT or DSG trans available. And only 20 % are 6MTs . They will be in demand and not easy to find.

The B8.5 will depreciate like the previous generations. Every time a new one comes out people think that the previous model is better and it'll keep its value or increase.

You can get an Amen on that. My thoughts exactly. I went from a B5 S4 to a B7 S4 now a B8.5 S4 and keeping it till atleast a B9.5 or B10
