Which 8P 2.0t quattro A3's came with an actual DSG in North America?

Hi there. Not normally in this section, but curious to know.

I'm fairly sure the 2011-2013 ones are DSG/S-tronic(same thing), since they have the round style shifter lever, but I'm not sure about the older years. I thought they did, but it looks like the handle from the regular auto in any interior shots I find.

    Thanks in advance!

All A3's that are Auto are DSG's.

Oh okay, that's easy enough! Idk why I thought the fwd ones and older ones were a standard automatic like the a4's. I guess the standard looking shifter is what threw me off. Even the older mk5 GTI's have the round shifter with "DSG" written on them.

So is it safe to assume it's going to be the same DSG transmission as the GTI for the given year A3? Also, are they all the same DSG, or is there a 1st gen, 2nd gen ,etc. I think the new GTI has a dif DSG, which is the same as in the new MQB A3.

    Thanks for the info!

BTW, I read through your thread and love what you did in the interior. Leather and upgraded shifter are choice

And that VR6 sound awesome! Makes me miss my mk3 vr6

I've got a 2006 A3 DSG with old shift lever, and 2012 A3 DSG with the round lever.
    Same transmission.
There are threads about swapping the old for the new floating around.

Actually, does your 2006 A3 engage into "S" mode on the transmission by a full move into the next gear on the lever? Compared to the 2012 which I think has an click down engagement of "S" mode?

I thought that was a distinction between two different transmissions, even if they are both DSG type transmissions. I haven't been able to find the proper transmission code info tho...

They both function identically depress the button and drop it into "S" mode the only difference is the position of the button on the shift knob.
    Both are DQ 250 transmissions.

I'm pretty sure the A3's never came with a push-style Sport selection for their transmissions, always been push the button in and put it in S and it will stay there until pushed back into Drive - A4 for sure uses the slapstyle for Sport mode though
