Our dipsticks-anyone ever attempted the O ring replacement ?

There's a plethora of info re the dipsticks on our 2.0's mainly relating to plastic failure and the vacuum/pressure cycle but has anyone just replaced the O ring ?
My d/s is sound but the seal has obviously gone as attested by the dusty oil stain near the handle. It would be a tight exercise to replace that tiny ring...
    Any thoughts ?

Looking at this again it appears the engineers at Audi were either having a dumb day or a greedy day when they designed this.
It appears that the O ring was rolled up the short taper on the handle end, seated in its groove and then the cable was seized in...thereby rendering replacement of the 2 cent part impossible.
O rings are a consumable and built in unnecessary redundancy I hate with a vengeance...

I'd rather spend 20c than $A50+ for the whole dipstick-that's a carton of Corona for goodness sake

I don't think there is any easy solution to this bar buying a new dipstick.
I'm pissed off though, even after Corona's lol

I was thinking of to change the o-ring on the dipstick, but later decided to buy a new dipstic. Was afraid if o-ring breaks and ends up in the engine.

I found the bottom portion of the plastic missing on mine, which lead me to buy the new one. The plastic does tend to crack and break off
